Am I crazy? Is this just coincidence?

My joints have been bothering me for a long time. Especially my elbows. With my recent back troubles, I was getting to my wits' end...my back, wrists, and elbows were leading me to believe I was entering arthritis.

I was taking all the meds the doc gave me to help my back, and it was keeping the pain at bay, but my ability to walk/bike/exercise was severly restricted! So, I remembered what someone had shared about Glucosamine/Chondroitine helping them with joint trouble. I bought some at a local drug store (it was on sale...lol) and started, 2 days ago, taking the recomended amount...

So is my question....I have no pain(!!!!!!) anywhere...not my elbows, my wrists or my back...is it possible that this OTC combo works? And this FAST????

Anyone know about this?

Hugs, Kathi

    Question?
I took it for over six months without results. I ended up with Gout of all things. I am in the 5% of women who get Gout. I had complained for years how my hands, feet, lower back, shoulders, all ached and very sensitive to touch. Finally, a female reumatologist took a real concerned look at me and my labs. I will always be on meds to keep the Gout at bay. Hopefully the Glucosamine will help you get through the discomfort. And, of course with Gout you have to occasionally have alchol i.e. beer, Scotch and sea food that is red: crab, shrimp, etc. all of my favorite foods. Kathryn

So the gout was from the Glucosamine?
Or am I, as usual, confused?

I LIKE the treatment for gout!!!! Here in Holland we have a restaurant where not only is it 'all you can eat', but also 'all you can drink' for 2 hours...this includes wine, beer, soda, coffee, tea, hot chocolate...mmmmm! I can't remember how many rose wines I had, but I gave the car keys to my beau...he doesn't drink...YEA!!! I had a designated driver for the night!!!

Glad it is working for you
Glad it is working for you too. Helped me a lot with the joint pain in my shoulders. I mentioned it on the boards when my onc recommended it to me for my joint pain. I only wish it helped with my back too, but I have issues other than just joint pain with my back(Degerative disk disease).

    I took
Glucosamine/Chondroiton before my surgery but oncologist didn't give the ok to start taking it again. My rheumatologist started me on it a couple of years ago but doesn't really help me. I'm glad it's helping you Kathi.

Donna, I have degenerative disc disease too. I had 3 discs fused in my neck and currently have lumbar stenosis. I'm bone on bone in one knee too. Breast cancer sure doesn't help.

    Gout
The Glucosamine was used to try to help with the joint pain but with no relief. That is when I was diagnoised with Gout which is urimic crystals bunch up in soft tissue around joints, for ladies only, throughout the body. No don't to excited and get your hopes up, you have to lay off alcohol, sea food. I find it difficult not to have my wine, beer, and sea food. Such is life.

They say G/C usually takes a week or more to help, but mine helped me definitely within three days. It's great stuff - at least for me.

    I don't
use it but my husband does and he says it helps him a lot. I know if he runs out and misses a day or 2 he feels it. I don't know what kind you are taking but we found one that is like taffy candy instead of those huge pills. My husband says it is so much easier to take.
Glad you found something to help ease your pain.

Is there a dosage? A nurse
Is there a dosage? A nurse at Dana Farber told me they give glutamine during chemo for the joint pain now. I have pain and would like to try it. My onc doesnt agree with the stuff or really any supplementation. asking him wont help. I am going to see a neurologist about the PN though.

    Not crazy
Yes it works. I had severe after chemo leg fatigue. My legs hurt so bad, nothing helped. Dr said take pain pills, but I didn't. I started taking omega fish oil,and vitamin D, my legs feel fine now. I plan on buying g/c next time I go to store.

Also I take St.Johns Wort for hot flashes. It works. I would have hot flashes constantly now maybe 1-2 tmes a day.

Doctors don't recommend any of these. Everyone has to decide for themselves if they want to take them or not.

    Oh, no...I misread....lol!
I thought alcohol, sea food, etc was GOOD for gout (shows how good of a reader I am...ROFL!)...

I don't think I could exist without seafood...my past rectal cancer limits the amount of beef I can eat...and my cholesterol, too! So I get my protein from fish and chicken...and peanut butter...mmmmm!

Carkris:I just take the doseage on the bottle...
    As far your onc, tho....

I am out of treatment, so it's a bit different. I always tried to listen to my onc, since she was leading the show...but, if I felt strongly about something she said 'No' to, I'd give it one more shot...my question was "Ok, so you don't think it will help, but will it hurt?"

That way, we both got an out...and I always got more of an explanation than just 'No'.

    The top dosage for
The top dosage for glucosamine is around 1500mg per day. It USUALLY takes a minimum of 3 months before you notice any results.

Being a martial artist,i know ALOT od ppl who take it,along with cod liver oil tablets and swear by it. I tried it a few yrs back but i only took it for 2 weeks and because i didn't see instant results,i stopped taking it! LOL. i HAVE NO PATIENCE!!

But if it works for you them that is great. Ginger is another good thing for joint pain/arthritis. As is Turmeric.

I've taken glucosamine and chondroitin for several years, and I think that it helps me a lot. I was having knee and hip pain so bad that I couldn't sleep, and I've been fine since I started the g/c. My PCP is not opposed to it and recommended that I try it.
