MAJOR Turn of diagnosis for my Father...

OK...some amazing, almost unbelievable news concerning my dad's stageIV EC cancer diagnosis!

He went to see this other doctor who is an MD, but also has 3 or 4 other degrees in biochemistry, physics, and a couple of others. She has been looking at my dad's biopsy reports and scans and through her analysis is 98% certain that his cancer did not originate from the esphagus, but from the thryroid!! Amazing!

That would explain why he is responding so well to chemo, maintaining his weight and able to eat and swall with absolutely no problems. My dad has been on Thyroid medicine for about 15 years and that very well could have been the cause!

By the grace of God, the chemo he is on is the right combo and his new dr. said he should continue with it. (I think he has two rounds left) Then they will sit down and decide what to do next. Probably go to a major cancer center or talk with a Thyroid specialist (of which there is one of the top right here in our own back yard!) and discuss their other options.

It's a little overwhelming to go from doom and gloom to a REAL possiblity of hope and cure!!
Anyway... just wanted to share this news with you all. Off to do some research on Thyroid cancer! LOL. Like I don't know enough about cancer already???! LOL.

Blessings,
Sally

    Thank You...
Thank you all for your prayers! Please continue with them. I'm still in shock and still a little skeptical, but hopeful. I don't believe I have rose colored glasses on and I know my dad still has the fight of his life ahead of him. But if indeed the cancer is originally from the thryroid and not the esphogus, his statistics, whether he beats it or has more time with us,is so much better. That's just a great possiblity to have! :)

    I will keep you posted:)

    Blessings,

    Nancyann3,

I believe he is on Cisplatin and Irinitican. He is on an 8 day cycle, but has had to skip a couple of weeks because his blood counts were just too low. He's taken some shot to boost his platlets. He was suppose to have his chemo last Monday but couldn't so we're hoping he'll be able to have it tomorrow. I know it's not a good thing to have to skip a week, but hopefullly it won't hurt too much. So far the cancer has been stable and shrinking! I keep praying it will continue to do that!

    Hi Sherri,

I totally agree with you. I'm sure before or even IF he is able to have surgery, they need to get a better handle on what's going on. They have yet to meet with the Thyroid specialist which will be done after he finishes his chemo in about 5 to 6 weeks and does more scans.

The whole thing is kinda of weird if you ask me (and no one did!:)). I'm hopeful, but not totally convinced ANYONE really knows at this point what's going on!

I think and pray for you and your husband often! Hang in there!

    Blessings,
    Sally
