Hi Jesus4u
We are happy that you did come to this site. It is always nice to add another to our family of survivors!! My dad was 70 when he got dx with ec. He had 6 weeks of chemo and radiation. He did great for 1 year. In December 09 he got mets to his liver. He went down hill fast....within 3 mos he passed away. March 9, 2010. So great that your husband beat the odds. Always remember...Cancer is a disease, not a life sentence. Stay in touch. Stories like yours are very inspiring. You can help a lot of people here.

Hi Everyone,
I haven't posted in while. I have gone thr many things that I was so sad. My prep op treatment chemo and radiation finished on 06-16-10 (5 weeksz). I could stand four of them since the side effects were mild, but as for the last round I couln't stand it due to nauseas and vomiting. Doctor placed me J tube two days after that since I wasn't able to swallow my own saliva and was loosing weight. Still will excesive saliva I spit a lot. I had my Pet/Ct scan last week. Report says that there is hypermetabolic intake in the esophagus, so it seems that the cancer still alive. Thank God that there is not spread in other organs. I will see the surgeon this Monday. I am not sure if he will proceed with the surgery since the results of the PET scan. I have a question. Is it possible to have surgery if cancer still alive. Anyone there that know about this.
Thank you very much for your support

Yovana,
I did not have pre-operative chemotherapy so I had surgery with the cancer "still alive". I am not sure if your surgeon will proceed given the results of the PET/CT scan. I would think it would be a question of the size of the tumor at this point and the condition of the structures around the tumor. The surgeon wants a operating field clear enought to remove all the tumor and get "clean borders" (that is normal tissue) around the tumor to insure they get all the abnormal cells.
I did not have pre-operative chemotherapy but my post surgical pathology report showed one of the lymph nodes they had removed contained abnormal cells. So I had 18 weeks of adjuvant (post surgical) chemotherapy.
I would think your surgeon would want to do a endoscopic examination to validate the results of the PET/CT scan. Then make a decision about surgery vs. more radiation.
We will be praying that you get positive results for surgery.
