Dad diagnosed with T3N1 Esophageal cancer but now Back Pain
I have been reading your stories for a few months now but have never posted. My Dad was diagnosed with EC in April of this year. He just completed his radiation and chemotherapy 2-3 weeks ago. He will be restaged on August 3rd and hopefully a surgical candidate at Sloan Kettering (i.e. Dr. Inderpal Sarkaria-trained under James Luketich.
My Dad is complaining alot of back pain? Upper back. Did anyone else experience this pain after radiation or could it mean it spread to his lungs? I am very worried and would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks for your help!
Kathy

Hello and Welcome!!!
My dad was a stage 3 and went for surgey then followed with chemo. He did great his first 2 treatments then complained of back pain. When he told the Onc. They said it was a side effect but they would follow up on it after chemo with a ct scan.
Good luck!

Kathy..
Hi. I'm fairly new to this sight as well. (about a week or two). My father was diagnosed in March of this year. After his radiation treatments he had severe pain in his back and left shoulder. So bad that they put him on morphine and he could hardly move his arm.
They did scans and nothing showed up. They think it was damage to some nerves by the radiation. He started accupuncture treatments and is now totally off the morphine!
Hope that eases your concerns.

I experienced upper back pain before I was Diagnosed---never knew why. Since my surgery in may 2008, I had very bad back pain----Ct scan and bone scan didn't show anything but athritis in my back. I no longer experience the severe pain, but do occationally hurt which I can easily manage by taking otc meds and lying down. I do believe this had something to do with the cancer and treatment because it is getting so much better now.0
