Anybody aware if SS decides a person should be off disibility after a period of time?, even though cancer tumor(s)may still be present, but life is somewhat manageable, and manageable from a treatment standpoint?

    I received the letter awarding me Disability Benefits 10 days after I submitted my application from my visit to the local Social Security Office in person. The letter states that they will review my case in 5 to 7 years. (so, I will be happy if I am around for the review) I have also been approved for LTD from the company, however it will be reduced in November by a percentage based on the amount I receive from SS.

    I suspect the insurance company providing your LTD benefits will require case review at more frequent intervals than Social Security.

    I have a call in to my Disability Analyst to ask specific questions relating to my cancer. The crux of the matter is that you have your highs and lows. All depends on the type of disease, treatment duration, type..etc..etc...

    Sometimes you feel like working, sometimes you don't. Statistically the prognosis is that you only have so much time, and you do not want to spend that finite time in an office or whatever you else you do. I tend to lean toward the disability road with the sign saying if I feel this good 2 years from now, worry about it then.

    I was on SSD several years ago for another problem not related to my cancer. They told me because of pending surgeries they would give me SSD for one year and than review my case. At the end of that year and 3 surgeries later the judge felt I was good enough to return to work. Even though their own doctor said I was not. I obtained an attorney and I'm sorry to say I lost. I highly recommend you obtain an attorney an argue your case. I can relate to the, sometimes it is manageable and sometimes it is not, days. It doesn't seem fair that one person has the power to judge our conditions without spending a day in our shoes, but that is the system. Don't try and go it alone at your hearing. I strongly recommend obtaining an attorney (with experience in this field) to be your advocate. I hope this helps.

    Thanx Joe, I am 6 weeks waitng for my online SSD application to get approved. They have all paperwork. Met Life just approved me, not sure just what that all entails.

    I am leaning forward to time with family and letting ths cancer thing just play out over the months, years, etc...!!!

    YW I did the online as far as info about my doctors go, however I set an Appointment in person and they reviewed my MD info etc..and then they sent it in from there.

    Award letter after 10 days.
