Hi All,

Sorry I have not been been posting, but I returned to work last week and have been pretty busy. Sure have missed all of you guys and gals. The reason for this post is that right now I am feeling pretty dumb. I had not seen my med onco since the 1st part of April so I called her the other day because I was concerned. Thought they had just forgotten about me, and I have not had my port flushed since that time. They informed me that I had missed my appt. in April, NOT!! I do not miss appointments and while they may have scheduled one, they forgot to tell me!! SO, I get to go mtoday for my 1st flushing and 1st blood work since my treatment ended. And I knew from reading here that this has to be done! Sharpest knife in the drawer yea. Does manyone think they will have problems flushing my port? Just wondering.

    Hey! we go every 6-7 wks... never had even the slightest issue... so I'm guessing you waited (not that much) too long but probably will be good!.. If you haven't seen him who does your cat scans??

    Hi Steve, welcome back to the work force...sucks, but better than the alternative.

    As for me, I go every 6 - 8 weeks as well, no problems. For the first year they had me going in about every 2 - 3 months also for ENT scope, blood work and a CT. PET has moved out to annualy, not sure on the blood work and CT... I guess that will depend on my upcoming PET in a few weeks. If the blood and PET come back good I get the port removed in February.

    No port here, but just wanted to say Yo. Sounds like you're doing well and that's always good. Like John said welcome back to work.......yechhhh. I'm ready for retirement or maybe ready to win the lotto (guess I need to buy a ticket to win though).

    Port Flush
    Not likely a problem. Mine had no activity between early-March to August of 09, when the Onco told me about the once/month flush thing, and have never had a problem with it. Not sure what they'd do if there is no blood flow to the syringe- other than I know they won't inject Coke into the Port!

    When mine didn't flow they used heparin to get rid of the clot. Sounds like Steve is doing pretty well, if it doesnt flow they might just remove it. I was sort of glad to get rid of mine, even though I would have liked to kept it a while longer though. those darn infections LOL glad you are doing well Steve Best Wishes
