Mouth Sores

I'm so sorry you are beginning to experience the mouth sores. Try rinsing with warm water and baking soda 4 times a day. Also, there is a mouthwash I've read that others have used, "switzel" or something like that. I'm sure someone will chime in with the right spelling. It is supposed to help with the sores.

You're already heading into week 2 which is great, but I know it's very hard.

Our cancer center uses a blend of ingredients called "miracle mouthwash" which my insurance wouldn't cover so I asked for the list - quite lengthy - so decided to pay for the concoction myself. My recollection at this point is fuzzy (was 2 1/2 years ago now) but I think it worked rather well in helping me get sustenance down and alleviating the problem in a couple of days. I liked its effect enough to pay for a second bottle - most of which I still have! Wish I could pass it on to you!

There has been mention of a number of "remedies" in these posts and you will have other suggestions but this is for sure: this does pass and rather quickly in retrospect - Hang in - the chemo is an important part of the cure! Glad you will have the dang infusion done with tomorrow!

The mouthwash Liz is referring to is called "Magic Swizzle". I used this and it does help. My doctor also prescribed something else that actually healed the mouth sores but I can not remember the name of it. It starts with an "N" and it was yellow syrupy kind of stuff that I had to swish with too. If I can remember the name of it I will post back with it.

Sue, I bought a mouthwash and toothpaste called Biotine, which was recommended to me by my chemo nurse. Perhaps this is the same stuff you are referring to.

This is what I am using now.
This is what I am using now. Both the toothpaste and mouthwash as well as a very soft toothbrush. I was told by someone on this or the other forum that it is less painful than regular toothpaste and mouthwash and I got it for my 'crisis kit' just in case I needed it...started using it before chemo/rad even began just to get used to it.

I remember once using Biotene because I had some dry mouth issues with meds I was taking awhile ago but someone on this forum or another one mentioned it so I bought it early and put it in my 'cancer bag of tricks' -- did not realize that it does not contain alcohol which makes sense that it is so mild to use ... started using it before I had chemo and radiation just to get used to the blander taste and such. I will have to remember not to be so quick to switch back to what I usually use (sensodine) until I'm sure it will work. Trial and error with everything with this huh? But we persevere. And push forward and help one another and I thank God we are all here for each other but not for the reason we have to be here.

Melodie - how are you doing? You are only a week behind me in treatment...I'll have to help pull you along on some days and if you don't mind, kick me in the butt forward on other days...hope you are feeling better.
