Tim in hospital
Been a long time since I posted, sorry.
Tim started his second round of chemo for the cancer that metastized into his lungs, bones and skin. He was showing improvement with the new treatment but since last Tuesday has been in the hospital w/pneumonia. He is having a bronchosopy today to see what's going on in his lungs and I assume take a tissue sample. He has not responded to any antibiotics.
They did do a CAT scan and the doctor said it was a bad case pneumonia, I didn't ask if it was his cancer.
So now, the "doctor" in the family is questioning why they are doing that since he has cancer in his lungs?
Anyone had pneumonia with cancer? What am I looking for? Other than telling that person to shut up, what do I ask??
Tim is holding his own, not getting better but not significantly worse since admission last Tuesday.
Thanks everyone - Cathy

Family Doc
Hi Cathy, I know it can be difficult when medical opinions come from family. Dealing with the doctors' findings can be challenging enough. The bronchial look sounds to me like routine procedure with pneumonia. I know they will need to treat that problem for itself, and it's treatable. Hoping with you the 2nd round of chemo keeps working, and praying Tim improves as a result. My thoughts are with both of you.

Pneumonia
Hi Cathy,
Sorry to hear Tim is having a tough time. I got pneumonia when I was in hospital during treatment. I actually woke up with pneumonia after I had my PEG installed. While not 100% sure, I would say it was a case of a 'hospital borne infection'.
Tim's case could be one of or a combination of a few different things. His immune system would most certainly be struggling and badly compromised after the treatments of Rads and Chemo, so he is weak and prone to get infections. As you say he has shown to have the cancer in his lung(s), so this could be an infection related to the cancer - bacterial or otherwise, or a separate infection. The CAT will show the pneumonia but he would need the PET also to see if it was the cancer. By doing a Bronchoscopy, they should be able to actually see if the cancer and pneumonia are related. The lack of response to the Anti-biotics would have most likley promted this course of action. I hope it is just a stubborn infection.
Sending best wishes to you and Tim.

Cathy, first, I'm very sorry
Cathy, first, I'm very sorry to hear Tim is having such a hard time. I will definitely being praying for both of you. I believe Chefdaddy also had pneumonia recently but I don't think he had lung cancer. I would recommend you send a message to Hondo as he definitely knows what Chefdaddy has been dealing with. You're in my prayers and I'm sending lots of good wishes. hang in there.
God bless you and Tim.

Hope Cathy updates, but is understandable if she doesn't for awhile. Tim got some good news today- a big Negative to a biopsy in the lung, and the antibiotics are working!!! This is most EXCELLENT, but the battle wages on. He's gonna be in the hospital awhile longer...
A Beckon Call To All- Prayers for Tim, and for Cathy, and for those Prayers to continue for a Time. This is Tim's 2nd bout with the C, folks. He is where Hondo's been, and living the further history we all have glimpsed thoughts of. Got his shirtsleeves rolled-up, people, and that is very serious business we can all help with. I'm not asking you to try and find the mean grin on the face I'm now wearing, because I really am ticked at this C character who is trying to get in Tim's way- I'm only asking you to Pray to the good Lord for His help to Tim for a Time. Again, a Beckon Call To All.

Tim and Cathy will both be in my prayers, actually I say a special prayer for all of us who have cancer everynight.
It breaks my heart that they are going through this again. It also scares me because I know someday it could and probably will be (according to my oncologist) me going through this.
This is another sad reminder that we need to live, love, laugh and appreciate everyday we are given because we never know.....
My prayers and positive thoughts to all of you.
