DX with NHL around 6/1/2010. My first round of R-CHOP was on 6/23/2010. I've been looking for a toothpaste that doesn't cause my mouth to feel like it's on fire, yet makes my mouth and teeth smell and feel clean. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    i use Retardex toothpaste
i use Retardex toothpaste ans mouthwash.
It is very mild in taste,is recommended by the British dental association and the mouthwash is alcohol free.

I get dry mouth form my rads years ago and cannot use any mouthwash with alcohol in as it dries it out further.

The toothpaste doesn't foam up much either so you dont look like you have rabies while brushing! =)

    Baking Soda
During my treatment with R CHOP(10/2009 thru 1/2010), I was told to buy a toothpaste with baking soda. Arm &Hammer makes one and it was much more comfortable and healing. It tastes a little creepy but my mouth felt very clean afterwards. Good luck! Mary

    Natural
I use tea tree toothpaste that is natural. It's more on the lines of natural stuff without all the sweeteners and I really think it's much better than any of the normal off the shelf stuff. I can't stand crest and such any more at all. Helps with canker sores and stuff from acidy tomatoes better than any other product I've found because I go overboard with tomatoes every summer. The tea tree may help....ask your doc.

Thanks Mary, Baking soda rinses do help. Arm & Hammer toothpaste doesn't cut it! Who knows, maybe it'll work again next week. Thanks, Kellie

That was my doc's suggestion too. Sometimes it's too spicy and hot, but cools down if I rinse with baking soda and water. Thanks, Kellie

Thanks, I will give it a try. I am still unable to find a product that doesn't feel like it's burning my mouth.

    Toothpaste
I have dry mouth all the time and during chemo my mouth was extremely painful. I found Biotein toothpaste to be the best for me. There are several different types and flavors but I preferred the gel the best. I found it very gentle. The only drawback is it's rather expensive. Hope you find something that works for you.

    Dr. Sheffield's
Hello. I just started using something called Dr. Sheffield's baking soda toothpaste. It's .99 for a small tube at our local drugstore here. Don't know how many places carry it. I don't have cancer but I do have very sensitive teeth/gums and this really seems non-irritating to me. It leaves my mouth feeling clean as well.
