countdown to surgery

Please wish me luck and offer prayers! On June 30 I will be having my hysterectomy for endometrial cancer. This surgery will be done in addition to some other things - over the past year I had 6 surgeries due to severe gallstone necrotizing pancratitis with a total of more than 5 months hospitalization (almost died from this). I was doing well when I was diagnosed with the cancer. I am pretty sure it was kicked in when I was in the hospital, as te bleeding started soon after I got sick wit pancreatitis. A transvaginal ultrasound, along with numerous CT scans for the pancreatitis, showed the uterus was normal, but a year later another one was done, then a D&C, which showed cancer. My surmise is that with a 70 pound weight loss, which probably dumped estrogen into my system, along with a highly weakened immune system (I had 4 hospital acquired infections), kicked the cancer in. In preparation for the surgery I have been doing 2 30 minute walks each day, wii fit for an hour each day, and doing a ealthy anti-cancer diet. My cells were grade 3, but I am hoping the stage is early. They don't want to do radiation, because I have a colon anastomosis (or joing of 2 parts of the colon - the pancreatitis destroyed half of my colon). I am hoping to have my ileostomy reversed, but the surgeon doesn't know if he can until he opens me up and looks at the colon.
I would appreciate good wishes/prayers that my operation goes well, the cancer is an early stage, and my ileostomy can be reversed (it was supposed to be temporary and I am so sick of walking around with a plastic bad attached to my side!). I am staying positive and have a good attitude but as Wed. June 30 approaches am getting nervous. I have been through so much since March 19, 2009.

    ((((hugs)))))).
Of it all (surgery, chemo, radiation), I thought the surgery was by far the hardest part. But you will get through it, and once you're healed the rest isn't too hard. The most important thing is to get up out of bed and walk around just as soon as you can, WAY before you will feel like it. You need to re-awaken your bowels and digestion. I recommend eating almost NOTHING until you have bowel function; I know I wished I hadn't eaten anything as the days wore on and my digestion took so long to kick in, as the food rotting in me made me miserable. I was only able to keep down warm tap water (as i ended up allergic to the Percosets) and I encourage you to work at staying hydrated if the pain meds make you sick. You can do this. I wish you didn't have to, but it is do-able. One day at a time. ((((Hugs))))

    You've got my..
...thoughts and prayers for successful surgery and cure.

My suggestion is that, prior to surgery, you meditate and imagine your blood flowing away from the surgery site during surgery. Research shows that those who did this had less blood loss and more energy for a speedy recovery.

And, what the heck, imagine your surgeon being the very best and cutting out all that dis-ease and leaving only healthy tissue for you to enjoy for many decades to come.

Smiles and love to you. Mary Ann

I too will keep you in my thoughts & prayers-you have been through so much already. I didn't have too much trouble w/the surgery, do keep up the water intake & don't be in too much of a rush to eat a "regular" diet. Once at home,I madesure to keep up w/the stool softeners & keep some prune juice around. It takes time to heal-don't rush it-I'm still learning to pace myself-your body will tell you-you just have to listen!

Thanks so much for all the prayers and good wishes. I believe it helped! The urgery itself went well, and from my gynologic oncologist, he believes it is at an early stage. Of couse, we will know more when the pathology report comes in sometime next week. All of my exrcise and healthy eatin seems to have made a differece. Both surgeons felt like I was much healthier. I didn't get my ileoswtomy reversed, but my general surgeon said he will definitely take it down in 2 months! It is good he didnt - I would have had a lot of trouble getting up to empty my bowels. All in all, the outcomes so far have been very encouraqing! I still have a lot of pain but it is being controlled by a fentanyl patch and the dilaudid pump. I had some more kidney issues (they shut down twice in earlier surgeries and I was on dialysis then for while. Luckily, tests show the kidneys to be fine now!

    Thanks for all of the
Thanks for all of the responses. I am home now (4:30 am of my first night) and trying
to rest comfortably. My cancer is stage 1b, grade 3. No further treatment is being
recommended because of the danger of radiation to my colon - the oncologist feels the
certainty of having major radiation damage is not worth the reduction of a chance recurrence of cancer, although he would suggest radiation if it weren't for my colon issues. I will of course have check-ups every 3 months and if cancer is seen we will reconsider options. I will be having an ileostomy reversal in 2 monts, for sure - I can;t tell you how happy that makes me and it won't be a major procedure. The doctor will just go in through my stoma and not have to cut me open again (I now have a lineof metal staples from breast to pubis). Right now I am just dealing with the pain from having a major, complicated surgery, and a 30 pound weigt gain due to fluid. I didn't know such a thing was [possible. I ate practically nothing but am 30 pounds heavier than I was a week ago! They tell me it will go away, but don't want to give me meds for it due to kidney issues. Thanks again, this forum has helped me a lot! Back to sleep now!
