Something that inspired me

The wings of eagles is a John Wayne flick. It was on again today. This movie inspired me back when undergoing chemo/rad 7/08 and I thought I would pass it on to you new folks.

In the true story movie, he breaks his back and is paralyzed and told he will never walk again. In the hospital his friend and him get a little loaded and sing “I’m gonna to move that toe that toe, I’m gonna to move that toe”. Well he does move the toe and is able to walk with canes.

While I was on the rad table mooning the techs and being rotiserized, I would sing “I’m gonna kill that node that node, I’m gonna kill that node. “ I also always referred to my rad tech as Sir Kent the node slayer. Damned if it did not work as the cancerous node was killed.

What I want to get across to you new folks is simply “the power of positive thinking”. It does work. Call it the placebo effect or what ever you want. They told me I would be dead by now. I am sure as hell alive.

    Thanks for the inspiration, Kerry!
That is wonderful inspiration for me. I haven't seen that movie, but my my brother is a HUGE JW fan; I'll have to ask him if he has it. I am glad the strategy worked so well for you.

Radiation and chemo did not kill that node. We all know you out-orneryed it (not sure of the spelling there - think it might be ied?). But we sure are glad you are still around to encourage us and at times even amuse us with your wit and humor.

    thank you
I love this. You are so right. I'm not a "new folk" and I'd love to say you are preaching to the converted but your message is inspirational to an "old folk" to -- really affirming.

    Out-orneryed! I love it!

    Now I'm convinced I'll live till I'm 103!

Not that there is a lack of (shall we call it strong-will?!) amongst dear ones in this board and elsewhere ;)

    Hey Rick
It’s spelt with a K as in killer! That’s ok as after 67 years I have learned to answer to anything with an erry on the end of it.

    Hey, Kerry.

My husband loves John Wayne movies, but that's one I haven't seen. Not sure if he has. I'll be sure to look for it!

    *hugs*

    I've seen it too
    Kerry,

I've seen that movie a couple of times, too. Very powerful.
Yes, I believe your fighting mode has helped you. No laying down and giving into it, here!

    the mind is very powerful
Thank you for the reminder of the importance of positive thinking. I had a CT a week ago and won't get results until the 20th. Shouldn't be worried but I am. I have to think more positive like you.

    Early am
That was an early AM post after being up all night with diarrhea. I was probably punch drunk and either typed it wrong or did not catch the spell checker making the change. Either way I stand by my awake too long defense!
