anyone think they had uti/bladder infection and it wasn't???

i read in some long prior posts that some women have had symptoms of uti, but urine test turned out negative. no one seemed to know exactly why this happened: some possible reasons cited were effects of chemo or radiation, lack of estrogen, or scar tissue in the urethra. has anyone had more recent examples of uti sensation with symptoms of burning when peeing, increased frequency, some twinge like pain in urethra??

    Yes Maggie I had these same symptoms and burning even on my legs and butt. Today I went for a colonscopy which by the Grace of God was clear, but doc says part of that burning sensation was due to hemmoroids. No infection!!! We do have to follow the advice from Linda --- "DON'T be afraid of every twinge. LIVE! ASSUME you are cured and live with joy! Life is good." So true, Maggie if my finger hurts, I think its cancer, if my toe hurts I think its cancer. My chemo doc recently told me that my cancer was MMMT and I went home and researched it, oh real bad prognosis, I was sick to my stomach, too much information is not good, anyway I assume I am cured and will enjoy life to the fullest. Be well Maggie. June--You don't have UTI. If you stand over a mirror, or hold it between your legs and look inside and it looks nice and pink you are okay. If you see any thing looking like cottage cheese or any white discharge then you may have a little something. So check it out. Keep in touch.

    UTI symptoms
    I had the same symptoms, including feeling like I had to go all the time. I was about to go to a urologist when my gyn onc prescribed estrogen cream. ALL my symptoms went away. When I asked my doctor why this happened, he explained that all the tissues in that area are very estrogen-sensitive, so the whole area was benefitting from the cream. Are you able to use the cream, or will your doctor prescribe it?

    it's so true, every little pain is cancer, but once my chemo doc said she was "unimpressed" with all my pains a few months ago, that they were most likely nerves regenerating (a year after surgery), i was able to ignore them, and boy, did that feel good. i haven't had many utis in my life, so this is new, will get that mirror and go right to it! have a doctor's appointment this morning because my urine test was contaminated by skin cells, even though i'd done everything correctly, so showed no bacteria. and once i started on the anti-biotics, it made no sense to do another urine test since the meds will have killed off a lot of the germs, hence the visit to gyn. i agree, too much info is not a good thing, plus nothing we read about prognosis applies to us as individuals......so, yes, let's just not worry about things over which we have no control.

    thanx for your response. i will definitely ask the gyn re: estrogen cream--pros and cons. good to know all your symptoms went away with it. geeze, who would have thought??

    As someone who knows what
    As someone who knows what UTI's are like, I like to remind people. There is an over the counter medication that will help with the burning when you pee. Look for "urinary relief" tablets with the active ingredient of PHENAZOPYRIDINE. It really helped me get through my 2 weeks or so of uti feeling after the radiation was over.

    while, i didn't have radiation, i still may check out your tablets if the burning persists. thanx for the recommendation.

    Yep! I had pain in that area after surgery.
    My bladder and ureter was nicked during surgery. Had to have a stent to keep the ureter open. For 4 months after surgery I kept having terrible pain in my bladder. All the time. It was miserable. Kept thinking it was a UTI. Had them do several tests all negative for bacteria. They even gave me CIPO to shut me up. Anyway as soon as the stent was removed there was instant releif. It was wonderful. No pain at last.

    What made me go to the doctor originally before the whole cancer thing was burning when I urinated. Also leaking and bleeding which I thought was a bad bladder infection. Instead it was a huge cancer in my uterus. Thank goodness that is all behind me.

    Maggie it might be something simple like the soap you use. Sometimes meds make us sensitive to things that normally would not irritate us.

    wow, that's quite a story. so glad it's all behind you now. i just finished my 5 day course of cipro, and i think it worked. burning is so much less. did see a gyn yesterday and everything looked good down there, so very well may have been a uti. i took some baths that i usually don't plus used soap i don't usually use, so you could well be right about that. from now on, only tried and true. the doctor did say that after the bacteria is gone, one could still have symptoms because the bladder has been irritated, and it could take longer for it to heal. that made sense to me.

    in any case, i'm feeling a lot better; mostly felt discomfort and fatigue--boy was i tired. plus i have a cold, something i almost never, ever get. funny, it made me feel normal--like i'm just someone who caught a cold, not someone who is battling cancer, whether i actually have cancer now or not..... made a huge difference seeing myself as kinda regular again, hope it lasts......

    Maggie glad you are feeling better
    Glad your burning is better, but sorry you have a cold now. Hopefully it will not last too long. I have only had a couple of UTI's. They were many years ago, but I remember they are not fun. You have to pee so bad, but yet you don't want to because it burns so bad, and then you do not go very much. No fun.

    Glad you are feeling "regular" again. In peace and caring.

    yes in August I had a UTI and from there went from good to bad from good to bad -- and hell and back -- first UTI -- then diagnosed kidney stones -- then next stop ER and they put me in their treatment for two days for extreme "dirty urine". Then next stop waiting three weeks later to be seen by urologist -- all the while bleeding while urinating -- then got the cystoscopy -- negative -- next bioposy and stint in ureter -- now positive for ureter cancer. Am awaiting surgery for removal of my left kidney, the ureter and partial of the bladder. Any words of advice?
