OK, ladies. I've read on this board absolutely no wine during chemo but I've also been told that an occasional 4oz glass of red wine (which I consider a health drink) is OK. Hell, I don't even own a 4 oz glass. So, what's the real deal? I start 6/1 and certainly won't do anything that's potentially harmful. Just checking. Thanks

Cindy

    Ask your doctor....
He/She may have some definate ideas...

My onc yelled at me when she learned I was drinking green tea....there is a debate between whether anti-oxidents are good or bad during treatment...even tho other doctors found no problem, she did, and she was running the show...

    I sure missed my tea!

I was told no alcohol at all
I was told no alcohol at all during chemo! This is not good for your liver to process. I will miss my maragaritas!

Definitely ask your oncologist on this one
    Hi, Cindy -

Every oncologist has their own idea about this one.

Before I started chemo, I very specifically asked my oncologist whether or not I could have an occasional glass of wine during chemo, and he said no problem. So I was kind of surprised to hear from other women on this board that their oncologists said no way.

But, like Kathi says, your oncologist gets to call the shots (pun intended!) during chemo. Remember that chemo doesn't last forever -- you may have to lose both your hair and your wine, but you'll get them back!

Mine was on the "NO" list
About most everything - no wine, no alcohol of any type, no green tea, no supplements.....she is very much into the holistic/dietary approach to health and adressing cancer but just about everything was a big no during chemo. I couldn't complain to muc - if I was going to have to go through chemo, I didn't want to do anything she thought might be more stessful on my body. I'm sure this is another thing where all the docs differ so your oncologist may give you a thumbs up!

    no one said anything...so....
no one said a word to me about not having a glass of wine...so, I continued with a glass each day during my first 3 chemo cycles. I then had surgery, and took pain med, so I stopped because of that...........I have not gone back to my glass of wine yet, but will now ask my oncologist this week.

    Wish I hadn't
I have had a couple of small glasses of wine in the month AFTER chemo. I did not feel well the next day, which really surprised me. Too many chemicals in my body, I guess. Pretty soon I'll try again, because I sure do enjoy a nice glass of something red!
