I am trying to eat more myself, forceing myself to eat. My weight loss wasnt too signifigant to worry about. Is hers really bad. Does she not feel like eating? I only had one lymph node involment at this time so surgery wasnt bad. It was in my groin area. I am still in the stages of getting more opinions. Good luck0 -

Stell,
It does sound so familiar. I had only a few nodes in my left groin to begin with. I think they took pieces of two nodes to do my biopsy. I did chemo due to weight loss and nightsweats. At first the chemo worked, but came back in a spot in the hip area. After watch and wait for about nine months we did radiation. They tried to get a biopsy of that spot but it was too tiny and the surgeon couldn't find it. He had me in surgery for 3 hours looking for it. He started out with laparoscopy, but ended up cutting me and trying to feel for it. About the only good thing with that surgery was I was knocked out for the bone marrow biopsy.
Radiation was hard on me and I've had issues since then, but it did get rid of that spot. Just hang in there, and try to relax. Stage 1 is kind of rare I think, seems to me most people are further along when they find it. It'll work out. I know you are scared.
Take care,

I have seen two doctors and
I have seen two doctors and one of them is suposed to be the best in North Texas.
Stage 1 Low grade B-cell lymphoma in the left grion also. The local onoc doc told me to do R-Chop but the one from Dallas (Best?)to just do radiation on the same spot where they took it out. I am very lucky that I caught it early. He told me everyone is different and it may not come back. I have had no symptoms, just saw a lump by my left groin area. First thought was
a hernia, then after the surgery. Verified it to be cancer, so I have started 4 weeks of radiation at 180 rads?0 -

I did 17 radiation treatments and it has completely taken care of that spot. Like I said before, I do have issues, but no cancer there!
But very happy you've caught it so early!

Can anyone tell me what the surgery was like ? I have surgery Monday so that my follicular lymphoma can be staged correctly, etc. and so we can get a treatment plan in place. They have so far found it in the groin, neck and probably the rib area. (waiting on test results) I don't expect the surgery to be too bad but plan to stay home the next day. Any advice?0 -

Hi Onlytoday,
I can't tell you what to expect as I have only had node biopsys by large bore needles and not a node excession. I know because of that my lymphomas were very difficult to diagnose but I wasn't about to have major abdominal surgery to get a differential diag. I have a rare and aggressive not indulent B and T cell NHL. I was wondering how you know you have fNHL if you have not had a prior surgery? Was it a needle aspiration? I'm some what confused as surgery is not usually a staging tool, that is done by BMB, CT and PET scans and blood work. I was staged long before we knew the dx. Anyway, depending on where the node is removed from I'm hopeful that it won't be too bad and you'll feel good within a very short time. Taking the next day off sounds like a great idea. Let us know how it goes. You'll do just great.
Sending you lots of very positive thought.0 -

I had one lymph node removed from just outside the groin area, Dr. said it was a little rare to be where it was. The surgery was same day, I was put out and the area was numbed. I didnt feel a thing. It wasnt too painful after, some pain meds that day and the day after and all was good, except for the diagnosis.
I am curious to those who just had the radiation in the groin area, how long did you wait till after the surgery to start the radiation. I have been going to second and have a third opinion on Tues. and wanted to wait till after then. The other two Dr.s recommended to have radiation about a month so the groin can heal some. If the third opinion agrees on Tues, then I will start on Wed. that will be about 5 weeks from surgery.
Dixiegirl, did you have complications from the radiation? Was it in your groin? Also, did you have drenching nightsweats? I tell the dr.s about my nightsweats, not drenching, and they are not concerned. They also dont happen every night.0 -

Newfoundcancaer, How long after surgery did you start your radiation?
I am editing, I found your answer in another thread, thanks.0 -

I did have it in my left groin, and yes I had drenching night sweats. When the sweats get that bad I'm pretty convinced it's back.
I didn't have complications with the radiation really, but it has caused issues with sex. It's very painful and feels completely dried out. It's changed my attitude completely. About the only thing that helps is KY Liqui-beads. It's not really gotten better with time for me. My husband is wonderful about it, but this cancer has affected his life too.
Talk to your radiation doc about it. I did and his comment completely embarrassed me...it's just soooooo not a comfortable conversation LOL. His comment? Go home and have very well lubricated sex for the next 30-40 years Talk about embarrasing! He did not think I would have any problem but I have fibromyalgia too and I do believe it had something to do with me being very succeptible to it.
I still am glad I did it though. The cancer is GONE in that area and no sign of relapse down there.0 -

Just take it easy for a day or two...no lifting over 10 pounds for a couple weeks is what I was told. You have a lot of muscles that affect the groin and you'd be surprised how walking stretches things.
The hardest part for me is no baths for 10 days....I love baths and just relaxing is what calms me down.
You'll be fine.

Prior to my lymph node removal I had a fine needle and core biopsy and they got a dx from that. But my oncs wanted one node completely removed for proper staging in addition to the BMB, ct scans and pet. Thanks everyone for the good thoughts and energy. Surgery went fine and I plan to return to work tomorrow. Ice is my new friend! The incision is almost 4 inches- that was a surprise.
I will get staging and plan of action on July 7 in one week now that testing and surgery done. Trying to stay busy and positive. I have moments of sadness, anger, all of it but working thru it. This is just a new normal... My best to all of you!
Yesyes: What kind of treatment are you having? (Sorry this might be on a previous post) How is it going?0 -

Hi Onlytoday,
I'm so glad that your surgery went well. Ouch, four inches, sorry about that. I know you are looking ahead to your doctors appointment on the 7th with mixed emotions. Please let us know what they have to say and what treatments you will be having. I also have an oncology appointment on the 7th. Having my port flushed tomorrow and a ton of bloodwork so wanting to see how my counts are doing. Seems like since I finished chemo I catch every bug in site. In May all of my counts were low, when I was doing chemo they were in the normal range. Very weird!! I did Rituxan for 18months, than RCHOP, 6 cycles, to answer your question. Finished in Feb and hopefully i'm still in CR.
Take care and feel better.
