There is a chat line specific to EC
Marrisa,
The Chat line here is open to anyone who is a member of ACS CSN and the discussion can be about many kinds of cancers.
There is a chat line session that is specific to Esophageal Cancer. The sessions are every Sunday and Wednesday evenings 8 PM until 9 PM EST.
I have copied the reminder below:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reminder: EC Live Chat!
Date: Every Sunday and Wednesday
Time: 8:00pm to 9:00pm [Eastern Standard Time!]
Note: Make sure JAVA is downloaded on your computer.
When asked for a USER ID, write in whatever you want.
(Some variation of your name is best, but if you do not want your name
known, make one up,
but [hint], plain "Bob" or "Jane" is easier for us to type and remember
than "KQrxT9x", or "SjnFLPq").
Location: http://ngc1514.com/chat
Comment: Join the Chat Group, comprised of patients, care givers and
survivors, where experiences are shared, and make new friends.
For Help Contact: Eric at eric@ngc1514.com
Your hosts are Eric and Mickey
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The group is sponsored by the Association of Cancer Online Resources
http://www.acor.org/
The people who join this session are both EC survivors and caretakers.

Chatting
I am 76 WM and am finishing my 3rd year with esophageal (distal) cancer. No surgery. To date disease has not spread from esophagus. Starting new regimen of treatment next week. To simplfy your questions you may e mail me at dilor2000@aol.com. I have learned much and understand about 80 % of whats going on. God does not enter into the equation as a viable treatment. I am not aware of your current state, but, DON'T GO TO A SMALL LOCAL HOSPITAL OR ONCOLOGIST for treatment!!!! ALSO FIND OUT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE IN PROFESSIONAL PAPERS. Do nt rely on patients as a rule, but, they can be informative as to their expeiences with particular drugs. Every cancer cell is unique and responds to certain drugs and not others. Esophageal cancer is particularly difficult to find the right combination of drugs. After 3 years, often feeling lousy from side effects, I'm still my original 290# and no metastisis.
I attribute my added longevity, 18 mos and counting (normal is approx 18 months) to my daily intake of excellent meals (except some short periods during chemo and radiation during which I had a "special tea" which helped create appetite), smoking cigarettes which I had given up for a year and 4 to 5 vodka martinis which I had not given up for last 45 years.0
