One week through

Hi Folks

Just finished the 1st week of Rads and 1st of 3 cistplatin treatments. Everything fine so far, only complaint is the almost-constant bloated feeling. I think its most likely from me eating as much as I can and all the water I'm taking in. I stayed in the hospital for 2 nights during the chemo treatment. They wanted to keep me on an IV drip before and after the chemo to flush it through the kidneys. Not to much to complain about at this point, though I do realize these are early days indeed. Just wanted to say thanks for your support and encouragement!

    Jimbo,
Glad to hear your first week went well! Good luck on the rest of treatments. It will get tougher but you have a great attitude so it will go fast.
    Positive thoughts your way.

    Huge!!
Jimbo...every week you get through is HUGE!! Mark them off your calendar. We are one week ahead of you in the same treatment. Mark just finished week two. First dose of cisplatin knocked him on his ****. He gets two days after of IV fluids, but just goes into the hospital on those days, he is not admitted. No swallowing problems yet, eats great when the chemo is not affecting him, lost his ability to taste this week. Worked all week except for the day he got his PEG in. He's doing the L-glutamine. If you haven't read about that yet, SEARCH it. Scam, I think, gives good info on why it is helpful. It helps maintain the health and healing of the lining of the mouth and throat. Also, be ready with the baking soda/salt gargling solution, and aloe.
Keep going...stay strong...lean on people when you need to. Keep us posted!

    Thanks everyone. Kimba, I'm
Thanks everyone. Kimba, I'm using you guys as sort of a 'guiding light' since you're just 1 week ahead of me. Here's hoping it turns out great for all of us. Thanks for the tip on the glutamine (there's a GNC around the corner from us) and salt water/baking soda rinse, those are for sure on my list.

    I follow Irishgypsie
    Jimbo,
I do the same thing. Lena Rose's husband is just one week finished with treatment; and I have followed them; and currently Irishgypsie is 3 weeks ahead of us on the same treatment. It is good to have the folks months and years ahead, they are like the rock. Those, weeks ahead, give us very clear footsteps to follow to find our way through.
I cannot take credit for the L-Gultamine (Scambuster) or the baking soda salt water (Marine). Lena Rose says supplement through the tube from the start if losing weight will be an issue.
FYI: First cisplatin knocked Mark on his butt for 4 days. Today you wouldn't know anything is wrong with him...just thin. (2 weeks done). He has one full week of just radiation before his next chemo.
    Good luck...stay close.
    Kim
Thanks Debbie for the well wishes...they always make me smile...it's the good energy coming in.

    Stay positive!
One week closer to being done with treatment. Everyone on this site is so helpful. They will let you know what to expect and how to deal with it as it comes. They are just amazing, strong people. Will keep you in prayers.
