Cancer DOES have a sense of humor :)
On a lighter note, I'm compiling a list of humorous observations I've made while going thru this journey with OVCA. I guess it's one way of dealing with everything.
Here are a couple:
1. Soon after being diagnosed, someone gave me a Teal bracelet that said, "CANCER SUCKS".
The package that the bracelet came in listed all the cancer awareness colors and I learned that the color for brain cancer is gray..and the color for bladder cancer is yellow. How appropriate.
2. After finishing chemo I was looking forward to my hair growing back. As you know ALL of your body hair falls out. I thought it was quite funny that once it finally started growing back the FIRST thing that grew back was my chin hair !!!! grrrrr!
Does anyone else have any more ?

great thread! I can think of one really funny moment right off the top of my head, but I know there have been many.
3 years ago, the first time my hair fell out, and I started wearing a wig, it was very hot here in Japan. My kids had a few friends over to play one day, and toward the end of the day, I was so hot, and being at home, I yanked my wig off. A couple of visiting children (they were 6 and 8 years old) looked up just at that moment, and the look on their face was priceless. It still makes me laugh. (Not only did they not know I had no hair, they probably did not even know there was such a thing as "removable hair".)

My granddaughter (7 at that time) wanted to take my photo by my Christmas tree we'd just finished ddecorating, the first chemo-Christmas I had in 2008. I was wearing a big fluffy red robe and I popped on a big 'Santa hat' that was stored in with my ornaments and she started snapping photos. She got one last shot just as I was pulling the big red hat off, held aloft over my bald head, and ROARED with laughter when she looked at it in the viewfinder. "You look JUST like Jack Skelington from 'The Nightmare Before Christmas',....and I did with my huge grin and bald head!!! Maybe I've got a warped sense of humor, but I found that photo and her honest reaction to it hysterical. It certainly defined that Christmas for me, full of happy times colored by my new diagnosis.
I also have a wig trick I do to freak out children. My granddaughter calls it "the Marge Simpson". I put my hands on each temple and slowly push my wig up and up so that it rises in a dome on top of my head like Marge Simpson's blue hairdo (from "the Simpson's" cartoon TV show.) I love to watch the eyes of little kids get so ROUND when they see that hair rising up! HA!0 -
Hair funny's
I've had some forgetful moments whilst wearing my wig. My husband and I were shopping in a drug store and absent mindely I picked up a "lady shaver" for my legs. My husband burst out laughing and said "What are you doing with those?" and for a moment I really thought I needed it for my legs. A few moments later he caught me looking over the "hair" accessories and we both burst out laughing.
Another thing, when wearing my wig whilst I was in the local pub, I often used to have hot flushes. I would take a tissue and, keeping my wig in place, would mop my head underneath the wig. My friends would laugh so much as it must've looked most odd.
If I think of more I will post them.

The first meeting I went to of the local NOCC, there was a new hire from the National branch there. She was cleaning out her office (her predecessor had left lots of "goodies") and offered us all kinds of things: tee shirts, nightshirts, teal bracelets and luggage tags, literature, etc. One of the things she passed out was a little zipper case with skin lotion, shampoo, and conditioner in it. Before I could stop myself, I said, "This is just....MEAN!" Everyone laughed.
I went to a new manicurist. She did good work, but I did not care for her "hard sell" approach. I had mentioned early on that I have Cancer and am receiving chemotherapy, have lost my hair, etc, and my nails grow very slowly. She asked if I wanted a pedicure. No, thanks. Did I want some special kind of manicure, involving I don't know what (except extra $$$), No, thanks. How about my eyebrows? Would I like to have my eyebrows waxed? I said, "I don't HAVE any eyebrows, remember?" She just said, "Oh, yeah," and moved on to the next item on the list....would I like flowers painted on my nails. At least she didn't go, "Oh, you poor thing," and try to smother me that peculiar sympathy that you know is not really sympathy, but just a loss of words.

I took my scarf off at a family get together, and in front of my grandpa, my brother in law, my sister, my 20 year old daughter, my 19 year old nephew and my husband, my 72 year old father asked:
"Is your twitchy bald too?"
Someone please bleach my brain!

good one Leesa !
The stories involving small children are hilarious. Little kids' reaction to situations are so pure and unfiltered....classic.

How ironic
4 years ago I donated 15 inches of my hair to locks of love. Then last year I lost my hair due to chemo. Ha.0 -
5yr old niece
When I was actively going through my inital treatment I almost always wore a wig. One weekend I slept over my sister's house. In the evening I took off my wig in front of my 5yr old niece. Well, she turned white. She was totally horrified. She says, 'does your family know about this?" After that everytime I scratched my head she would say 'please don't take your wig off'0 -

Mommy's going to be bald
After explaining to my 6 year old son that I was going to need to take some medicine that would make my hair fall out, I decided to cut my hair short to help prepare him for the transition. While my hairdresser, who happens to also be my sister, was cutting my hair, he yelled in from the other room, "Hey, you are not going to have to cut my mom's hair anymore, she's going to be bald!" From that day on, every day he would ask if my hair was starting to fall out... When it did fall out, he was completely at ease with it. My bald head, hats and wig became the family joke. The day I was able to give up my wig (about 3 weeks ago), my sister gave me my first haircut since the one before my chemo. This time my son and the rest of the family took turns wearing my wig and we took pictures. We all laughed so hard... laughter is so good for the soul!0 -

For mothers day my kindergarten daughter gave me a card where she completed the questions asked about me:
my mom is "50" years old.
My mom weighs "42" pounds.
My mom likes "pizza".
My mom's hair is "none"
LOL!!0 -

Nancy,
I am being treated at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia. My oncologist specializes in gyn. oncology and there is an entire floor for her patients. So far, I have been very pleased with the treatment and care. Where are you being treated?0 -

My 3 yo grandson is traumatized if he sees me without something on my head. He runs and hides. But, whenever he is being naughty, all anyone needs to say is "nana's going to take her hat off", and he suddenly becomes very compliant! My daughter said maybe she needs to shave her head so she can use that on him at home! lol0
