Epithelioid Mesothelioma

My dad was just diagnosed with Epithelioid Mesothelioma. They want to operate and take out his left lung, the lining of the lung and part of the diaphram. Is there anyone out there that has been through this??

    I was diagnosed with Pleura
    I was diagnosed with Pleura mesothelioma June 1, 2009 Had my right lung, the lining and a couple of spots of my diaphragm removed in July. I am still healing as I also had chemo and radiation, my last treatment was in late February. It is a big surgery but it is worth it, have your dad think positive as he will need it. I am getting slowly getting stronger but still get tired easily.

    Before I had my surgery, my surgeon had a petscan, ct-scan, heart ultrasound, and pulmonary test to make sure that my other lung can handle it, once that was all done then had surgery

    My dad is going for all pre-op testing next week.

    How much chemo and radiation did you have?

    We are thinking positive and thanking god everyday that we have the option for surgery!

    I'm sorry to hear about your dad.

    My mother was diagnosed in late March 2009 with pleural mesothelioma (epitheloid type). She had VATS and talc pleurodesis done in April, then chemo June - Oct 09, Jan - Mar 10. The chemo was more to control pain and shortness of breath. Radical surgery was not offered (and isn't done very often here in Australia).

    Now we are getting to the end of things, mum is in the palliative care unit at the moment having pain meds adjusted but is up to around 260mg of morphine per day.

    It's really a horrible, unfair disease and I'm sorry you and your family are going to have to go through it too. All the best.

    Was suppose to have 4
    Was suppose to have 4 treatments of chemo but ended up having 3 chemo treatments as I was not handling it well, I was on cisplatin and permetrexed chemo. I lost a lot of weight and did a lot of vomiting. They gave me anti nausea meds which helped a little bit. Then had 25 radiation. I did not do well on that one either but I have a stomach that gets nausea and vomiting easily. ended up in and out of the hospital for the last year. And now I take a look back and feel that I have accomplished a lot as I am still here and slowly getting better. Couple of weeks ago I actually started going back to work after a year, I only go 2 days a week for 4 hours each and will be increasing my hours next month, but it is better then being at home.

    Good luck to your dad, and remember to be there for him. He will have painful days but it will get better

    I am so sorry to hear about your mom. You said it best it is so unfair.....

    He is going to go through with the radical surgery. We are so thankful that he is a candidate for surgery. We know it will be a long road ahead......
