Im interested in what hospital/Cancer center did everyone attend, and how did you rate your level of care, both during your treatment/surgery and afterwards,
I did my treatments at Blesings Cancer Center in Quincy Illinois, and i have to say i got top knotch care, my surgeries were done at Barnes Jewish hospital in St Louis Missouri. I feel i got goood care there other than while in recovery, i had soome minor heart problems and was moved to Cardiac care, and for 3 days i swear they tried to starve me, i litterly had to demand meals be brought to me, i guess they lost me in the system, My girl friend went totally balastic over that. But my main complaint was trying to obtain records and test results to give to my present healthcare providers, i have waited 5 weeks to obtain a copy of a CT scan for compairoson , it took numerous phone calls and faxes by myself and my dr to finall get them, Thank god the results were in my favor,

I had my surgery at Richardson Medical Center (Texas) and all my treatments at Richardson Cancer Center which is affiliated with UTSW. I have used this medical center for over 25 years as has many family members and the care is great. Have never had any issue.

    BJC
Most of my experience like you comes from Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, and the CAM (Center for Advanced Medicine) bldg, which is also part of the BJC system. I am quite happy with all that has been done for me at both of these places. Fortunately I did not have the same issues with records/test results etc. that you did. My Onc is with Illinois Oncology and while not related to BJC has and continies to work with the surgeons and specialists from there in my regard. I talked to the ONC's at BJC originally and decided to go with my current Dr. over them. It is a decision I am quite happy I made as I wouldnt trade my Oncologist for anything, he is amazing!
I have on several occasions also had dealings with Oliver Anderson Hospital in Mayville,IL. Emergency room visits are never fun and if your hurting they all seem to take forever, that being said I can't complain with my treatment in regards to the ER.
I did have my port placed there and my second surgery was also done there. In that regard I no longer use their services, I had a nurse who was not good at her job and was defensive about it to the point of being bilegerant. My surgeon, while recommended by others was way over his head when it came to cancer, thought he was God, and didnt listen to a damn thing I said. He has since been replaced.

    Castle.
I had my LAR for rectal cancer done at Castle Medical Center, "a 160-bed facility with more than 1,000 employees and staffed by 248 physicians. Located just outside of Kailua, Castle serves all of O‘ahu and is the primary health care facility for the Windward side of the island. The hospital is owned and operated by Adventist Health, a Seventh‑day Adventist health care system." I also have had chemotherapy, colonoscopies, CT scans, blood work done there. It's a very fine place -- I never had anything to complain about. My medical oncologist does rounds there daily and visited me every day when I was recovering from surgery. When I've wanted to get copies of diagnostic reports, I just drive the 10 minutes to the hospital and drop in at the oncology clinic, where the staff remember me by name. I had to drive to a larger hospital in Honolulu, Kuakini, for radiation treatments.

    MD Anderson
Five and a half years of treatment, three surgeries, 13 weeks of radiation, more chemo than I can count and I have nothing but the highest regard for the people that work at MD Anderson. The culture inside the building is really amazing, they are there to help you and to make you well. We have to travel from New Mexico so it's not always easy to get there but I would never think about going anywhere else.

    Hospital care
I had my surgery done at Georgia Colon & Rectal Surgical Associates through Northside/Atlanta Hospital. Everything went smooth as silk. My colorectal surgeon is the Chief-of-Staff there, so assumed that I was in pretty good hands. I was correct. Not a single problem with the operation. Was there for 5 days, nurses were great! Used Georgia Cancer Specialists for my Oncology treatments. Several locations, I used the Northside/Forsyth Hospital location(my surgeon has an office there as well.) Surgeon did my port insert and removal there. Had my pre-chemo and post-chemo CTs there as well. Had all my chemo treatments at the oncology center. I can be bias, but I believe I had the best chemo nurse there is! My Dr and the nurses there were always open to listening to whatever issues I had and offering promt solutions. I may be the minority, but I had a damn good army put together for this battle. Hopefully the war is won! I guess we'll know in four more years and from there on out.

    Care
H Lee Moffit in Tampa great care. They share all information. I asked the nurse today if I could read the protocal and she handed me the file. I have wonderful doctors with great residents. Started this experience in Savannah and was not happy at all with the "group".What a difference ,people call you back when they say they will and you don';t have to wait for appointment. Got copy of CT(the day a had it) and a CD of the discussion with radialogist (the same day), the resident spent at least 30 minutes asnwering all questions and was extremely nice. Within a month of diagnosed with rectal cancer I have had a CT, a Ultra Sound, Sigmoinscopy, Pet SCan and my run through for my Radiation, have chemo doctor on 17th and will start treatment within 7 - 10 days.
WOW can't do better then that. I hate to leave out the most important person my wonderful surgeon who is trying really hard to save me from an APR. Rectal Cancer only 1 cmm from anal verge.LOcation Location Location.

    Great experience
I had my surgery done at our local hospital, Annie Penn. It's part of the Moses Cone Healthcare system. My surgeon was very good, my oncologist is a hoot and very concerned, and my primary care doctor is a personal friend and a personal hero of mine. Love him and will cry buckets if he retires before I die (many decades from now!).

    *hugs*

    Mayo, Rochester, MN
10/10- can't say enough about my Mayo experiences, all 3 of them. My colorectal surgeon is tops and she just gave me such a level of trust and reassurance. I have always felt Iwas in the best possible hands. The entire Mayo experience is like no other- I am blessseed that Rochester is just south of me and my insurance covered everything.

My oncologist and chemo were up here in the cities through Unity Hospital. Small community based hospital about a mile from my home. I love my oncologist- he is a gem. I had to be hospitalized 3 times at Unity for chemo reactions- and their cancer unit, the oncology nurses, heck the entire staff were right there for me the entire time. We had a large one day nurses strike here last week in 15 hospitals in the metro area. I have never been more proud, just busting with pride to see the nurses at Unity on the picket lines. They have my full support! What a wonderful group of people, so grateful they are who they are!
