pain post radical hysterectomy and 6 months post chemo

hi sisters,
i'm about to schedule my first post surgery, post chemo (6 months) ct scan, and have noticed a number of different kinds of abdominal pains, groin pains, breast pains, pain on ribs, on hips, along the side towards the back. i note a twinge of some kind, and press it, and sometimes it's nothing and sometimes it's a pain that stays there. the pain feels like i've bumped into something and it's bruised. the pains seem to move around, here today, gone tomorrow. it's strange.

of course, every time i feel a pain i worry about it. wondering if any of you 11 months or so after surgery have had these kinds of pain. my acupuncturist thinks they're probably adhesions, but i won't know for sure until i have my ct scan. wanted to hear from anyone who's had, or having these kinds of pains. because i had alot of debulking done around my upper rib cage, i have regular pain there, and still take pain meds, maybe every 6 hours for that. ever since the surgery, i've had this vice-like pain around my rib cage, and haven't worried about it, and figured things were getting better since i have reduced my pain meds from every 4 hours, to every 6 or 7, as i've said. hope this is making sense.

    thanx so very much for your comments; it was greatly relieving just to hear you've/had the same pains. also so good to hear you're 3 years post hysterectomy and 2 years post chemo. was there a reason why you had your chemo a year after your surgery? am i right that you did not have radiation? i did not.

    i also had 6 cycles carbo/taxol, but don't recall having pain from the chemo as much as from the surgery. nurses in the hospital said that surgery was like being hit by a truck, and i believe it. i'm sorry to heqr you had a recurrence, but sounds like you've been fine for over 2 years. sorry, what's pfs? i'm assuming it's like ned, no evidence of disease. i do understand the soldiering on, and feeling like doing nothing. once i'm up and working, i do feel better. i am worried about my first ct scan coming up next month; but am fatalistic about it in the sense of there's nothing really to do at this point other than what we all know to do. it's good to her that most times you feel great. i think we're entitled to our down days whenever they come.

    What next after Radical hysterectomy
    Hi All,

    This is sami from India, my mom was diagnosed with cervical cancer and she has been operated on 7th june 2010, her radical hysterectomy is done now I am bit worried because all the nodes which came out from surgery is positive after analysis, Is it required adjuvent chemotherapy or radiotherepy, or we just beleive in god and dont do anything.

    The strange thing is that she diagnoised with 2nd B cervical cancer but she didnt have any pain at all, there was no clue that there is cancer, my mother age is 57 and she had menopause 10 years back suddenly she found some blood spots in her underwear in october 2009 but she took it lighty and she went to doctor on may 28 2010, she delayed and diagnosed as cervical cancer.

    till the day of operation she didnt have any pain at all, after operation also she is fine , doctor is telling for chemo and radiation therepy after this, i am but worried about the side effects and survival, she is fine with no pain at all, i am worried the condition should not be worst after all this therapies.

    Pelase help what shd i do and yes she had positive melagnancy, Adinocarcinoma .

    Many had no pain
    Hi Sam,This cancer often has no pain-I didn't have any & carried on w/my life until just 2 days before my hysterectomey, which was 1 month ago. Yes, w/positive lymph nodes the docs want to do chemo & usually radiation. do your research, read what these gals have been through & then decide on what way your Mom wants to do. In the end, it should be her decision as it is her body & she is the one living in it. I am still doing lots of studying on what the drugs are & what they do & the recurrences even while undergoing the treatments. Don't rush this important decision. I just has a CT scan Friday & see the oncologist again on the 21st. So there is time-first she needs to heal from the surgery!

    About treatment
    Sam when i was diagnosed with Stage 1a uterine cancer. I did not think twice about chemo. I know that technology and medicine has improved tremendously and with the help of God I proceeded. I personally think that mom should take treatment and hope and pray that she does not have too many side effects, she is young and I am sure she, like all of us will be able to endure and beat this monster. Be strong and positive for your mom Sam. She will be alright. I send you and mom comfort and best wishes. June

    Hi to you all from Scotland
    I had a radical hysterctomy just over a year ago, followed by carboplatin/paclitaxel, and then radiotherapy. I was diagnosed with stage 1c grade3 tumour. I am now a NED, thank God, but I still have all the pains exactly as you ladies describe. However, I have to say that I would not have considered refusing the chemo or radiotherapy treatment, which have caused this ongoing pain. I would rather be free of the cancer, and if it means suffering the after effects of treatments, well that is the price to pay. Some days are good and others are bad.It is really comforting to read all the stories on this forum, and know that I am not alone. My oncologist is just happy that for now there is no sign of cancer, and my local doctor is trying to help me to control the pain with different painkillers.

    Pelvic pain
    At about 1 year, 4 months after finishing chemo (staged at 1b, grade 3 - total hyst, 6 rounds of carbo/taxol) I developed pelvic discomfort and intermittent sharp pains - very much like menstrual cramps (ain't that a kick in the head, hah). It's been an everyday affair ever since. My gyn onc does not know what is causing it, my regular gyn doesn't know, either. I've had a colonoscopy, seen a urologist, had Lidocaine shots into my abdominal wall and still no answer as to what is causing the discomfort/pain. Like you, Sue, I would rather be free of the cancer - I don't want to live with this, but if I have to, it's a small price to pay to be NED.
