Hi Angie
Hi Angie. I did read somewhere that tea and coffee can affect how well your body absorbs iron. They bind to some substance in the tea or coffee, polyphenols (or something like that) . I don't think your mom has to eliminate it entirely but definitely she should cut way back until her RBC are back up. She should eat alot of iron rich foods, like meat, veggies, fortified cereals, dried fruits (raisins are a very good source of iron). They had my mom taking iron supplements but I don't like them. They can really upset your stomach, or cause other side effects.
Good luck and let us know how she's doing.0 -
I had the same issue
I had the same issue throughout my treatment. It took 3 blood transfusions to get me through the 6 rounds of Carbo/Taxol, plus the aranesp shots. My doctor told me to take a multi-vitamin with iron and to eat iron-rich foods. He suggested liver, but I can't abide the stuff. He did not tell me NOT to eat or drink anything in particular.

Thanks ladies for the info, I will be passing it along to my mother. She is on a multi-vitamin with iron. And like you Carlene she doesn't care for liver.0
