Leukoplakia (sp?)

Had my 8 month checkup with ENT Friday and he used a new 3 chip scope to look in my throat. Old cancer site looked good but he spotted a couple of little whitish spots on my vocal cords. Called it Leukoplakia and said it was the result of heavy smoking or GERD/ acid reflux. I've never been a smoker and although I have had heartburn once in awhile not cosistantly. This new scope took a movie of the whole procedure including sound of me saying different letters. Still photos were made from the movie and added to the report. The ENT is going to keep an eye on things and prescribed an anti-reflux med to take. He assured me he it wasn't anything real bad but is obviously going to keep on top of this. Anybody else with similar? Thanks in advance.

    Acid Reflux
    I have some acid reflux damage and as a result they like me to have the sndoscopy every two years...they prescribed Protonix for me....haven't heard of the Leukoplakia you mentioned, but the new scope sounds cool....

    I'm on Prilosec for now. Hopefully this clears things up and this becomes a non-issue for me.

    Leukoplakia in tongue
    8 months out of treatment for HPV SSCA in right neck lymph - primary source unknown, radiation and Erbitux. Among the many painful side effects near end of treatment and for weeks afterwards, I had a significant sore spot on my tongue. Interferred with eating and speaking.

    It went away after 3 months and just came back 3 weeks ago. ENT/Ocologist/surgeon says its leukoplakia and given my history best course of action is to remove a small portion of my tongue. This will also allow for thorough analysis of the tissue for any unhappy developments.

    In his words he is " not very suspicious at all, but best course of action is removal". I'm all for it - the pain is significant.

    He said it can be caused by irritation from sharp teeth(which I have found I do have on that side), tobacco use, burning your tongue, etc. I have never used tobacco.
