Wanted to get any feedback and advise here. I am told told to start MUSE 3 weeks after surgery and pump 6 weeks for a 3 month rehab for.. and to take the tablets after that. Am perplexed based on the tablet based protocol benefits I have read in the forum and the approach used by other surgeons.

Please advise

    I have many comments and
I have many comments and posts on injections (I use bi Mix 2-3x week…I did not like tri mix)…My surgeon (William Catalona) and my Urologist both said that injections were the best ED therapy after surgery. I started 3 weeks after surgery and my URO placed me on 5mg Cialis daily as well… With the injections there is no question (for me anyway) that I have an erection that is also suitable for intercourse and you do have orgasm (hard to believe but they are just about the same but without the fluid-in fact mine are more physical and intense than before)…Having said that

Why MUSE? It is expensive and it was easier for me to wrap my head around injecting myself than the MUSE application (for me)…For me there is no pain when injecting at all plus you can play with the dosages (you cannot do this with MUSE)

ED drugs like Cialis do work with my experience. The low dosage I am taking right now does not give me an erection but it does allow blood to flow into my penis (it gets engorged) and that is why I am using it right now …My Urologist says I can just use the larger dosages now for erections (20mg Cialis) but that he would prefer for me to still do the injections as part as my therapy for at least another 3 months (and am I looking forward to stopping the injections-yes)..

Best of luck to you in your therapy and may it work for you and remember that we are all indiviudals and what works for one may not work for others...

Regarding the pump…I found it a waste of money and did not like the feeling I got from pumping it or how cold my penis felt…I use it as a decoration now but others swear to it but it is also my advise to buy one if you have the funds (manual not electric in my opinion) and see what happens… It is your “manhood” you are talking about here and all avenues should be explored for your therapy… best of luck

Seems my surgeon's approach is similar to yours. MUSE after 3 weeks of surgery and injection if MUSE causes pain..and then graduate to cialis or others. I am scheduled for surgery on 6/15 and the recovery plan after that.

Upon catheter coming out I plan to ask him the inclusion of Cialis in the plan,

I can tell you straight up...Viagra makes me straight UP! I can now use only 1/4 100mg pill and it does the trick...If I really want to go wild I do 1/2 pill. The Pump for me was just a little more than a week of amusement and I have like BD wasted my money...I suppose I might use it as a foreplay toy someday...lol Or maybe I could sell it on Ebay----eeeewwwwwww! I can see the ad now: "Great Pump in good working condition, Hardly used, didn't need it... Good partner."

Randy - Would appreciate the details
randy - 1. when did you start taking cialis and what was the protocol? how long
did you use it and how did you mix it with cialis
    2. when did you start the pump and what protocol
    3. when did you start viagra and what protocol -did doc recommend it or
    started on your own?
    4. any other tricks of the trade - injection, stimulation, partner role,
    etc
My doc wants to wait for 3 weeks after surgery MUSE..for a 3 months period..then go do to tablet. What I want to do is take some tablets after cather is removed and the mix it MUSE or injection.

Thats a reason for the questions as I want to create a plan that I can take to my doc to bless

    Here's what I did
My Surgeon said it was important to start getting blood flow to the penis right after cath removal, which for me was 13 days, because they found a leak on day 8 when I first went to remove it. The PA gave me about 2 weeks of Viagra to start on the following regime:

    ED path:
Early on started on Viagra 100mg pills cut into 4ths so 25mg per day dose then a full 100mg on every 7th day.
Also bought pump and used sporadically to get blood flow to member. Within about three weeks or 5 weeks from surgery (cannot remember but probably posted on CSN somewhere) had usable erections.

Currently only need ¼ pill to get usable . Day 150 am starting to get semi hard without any drug.

Again, if you don't already know about me I was a competitive athlete most of my life and in exceptional shape from highschool through about 15 years following college. (run over 100,000 miles in my lifetime) Also, My surgeon found two extra pudendal arteries going to my member and disected around them so I have 4 arteries feeding blood where most men only have two beneath the prostate bed so that puts me at an advantage over most men for ED rehab. I'm getting it back so easy that I have quit using the pump - probably have not used it for over two months. What an expensive short used toy that was. Here is my source for generic Viagra:

Here is the order which contains the web site I used. I researched the best I could to find the best company from India for the generic Viagra and Aurochem was the company the person gave me.

    chitown,

    chitown,
You may have mentioned but who is doing your surgery? I beleive as Randy does that your surgeons skill level will have a tremendous impact. Of course the goal is to get you cancer free. You don't know what will be found until the doc gets in there but all signs look very promising for you. I was 54 when I had my surgery last August 15th. Had all the big fears that all men face...Heck my wife is 8 years younger then me and want to keep her happy to! I wasn't in the best shape when I found out about my surgery but I can say I made major changes and now exercise daily, have dropped 50 pounds and feel better overall.

My surgeon had me start on Levitra I think it was at week 5 or so following surgery. Small doze 3 times a week. At about week 7 we went on a cruise to Bermuda, had the beginnings of erections which have gotten better as time goes on. Now I use the full doze Levitra (I think its 20 mg) I found with planning...taking the pill the day before and then the day of any planned sex, limiting my food intake and wow...It's almost like the old days! This is with 100% nerve sparing on one side and only about 60% nerves spared on the other side. So very happy! As I've posted before I have been 99.9% dry since the day the cath came out. Every now and then a small drip but nothing that I need a pad for.

I've not used a pump at all. The two docs I see like starting with the pills then going other routes if needed.

My Path Report was similar to Randy's PSA 5.3, Gleason pre surgery 4+3 7, after path changed to 3+4 7 with some type 5 cells found. Cancer involved I believe 20% of the one side of the prostate, the seminal vesicules, were clean and other things removed were clean. I do have a positive margin in the apex but pulling 0's on my PSA so far.

Best wishes to you as 6/15 approaches I have a PSA Scheduled for that day. What part of the country do you live in?

    6/15 surgery
I am in Atlanta and have good confidence in my surgeon. He had done over 2000 robotic surgery since 2002. My gleason score is low so am hoping for no surprises or complication, but keeping my fingers crossed

Any suggestion on best way to manage the anxiety that is building up for 6/15 surgery. Not sleeping well, go into mood swings and worries, etc.
Dont want to even think the anxieties after the surgery!

Also, good luck on your PSA follow-up

Thanks Randy and Larry for giving details on your recovery from ED or should I say ED REHAB. Although we are all different, the experiences of others could help. It is the whole purpose of this network anyway.

Larry - longevity is effected by age of partner
Just saw the other day on a program if a man partners with a woman 11 years his junior he will actually extend his life by 10 years...you are on the right path...with 8 years....I told Annette hmmm you are only 3 years younger...I am in the market for a 41 year old...lol

By the same token Demi Moore will not gain any additional years with her craddle robbed husband Kircher. They didn't say why it wouldn't work out the same for the reverse for women but it's pretty obvious why it would work out for a man - based on the fact we are all basically dogs - JMHO - women can live without it...we males thrive on it well at least this male does!

Well…I always like positive news or with us PCa surgery survivors “negative” news…So since my wife is 12 years younger than me it will extend my life 10 years (we have been married over 20 years now)…Cool… I will chose to believe this so thanks for the 10 additional years…

Just read an older post of yours and if your surgeon was trained up at Ford then you have Dr. Shah (not Shaw like I spelled above) and he is probably the best in the southeast (but Miller is very good). Did you see Shah’s u-tube? CNN filmed him doing a friend of mine back in 2008…If no you can goggle it…

Anyway you are in great hand with Shah or Miller…If you are having your surgery done by Shah then you probably have Nabors as your Urologist Oncology and I do not mind saying that in my opinion Nabors is the best Urologist Oncologist in Atlanta and honestly does the best for you…

When I was competing in College I used to monitor my resting heart rate upon waking each morning...I had it at 35-38 during my Junior & Senior year - that's what kinda made me feel invincible to anything especially cancer...lol I am nowhere near good shape now because of my arthritis in my hips...My next battle...looking into resurfacing then I can be active again and lose the 30lbs I need to. You will do fine...at your age and fitness it should be a good experience hopefully.

It was on Longevity on the Dr. OZ show
He seems a bit quacky but he's interesting some of the time with so called experts on his show. I take all that crap with a grain of salt...I am a believer in making your own destiny which I think is way north of 50% determined by your own mind and probably very little by fate.

Dirty old man...I have been called worse...
Yes I agree that we all make our own destiny...I posted this comment prior to my surgery date 12 + weeks ago but my resting heat rate was 48 and I had to see a cardiologist because everyone choice to believe I was sitting around eating lard instead of just in great shape at 54 going on 55...To funny when the cardiologist came in and said oh you look like you are in great shape what is this about? Then he ok’ed my surgery...

As far as weight lost I find that it is just a life style change/adjustment....I have a great diet that I would call heart healthy/ Mediterranean diet. I no longer have dairy (a little cow cheese once in awhile, love nuts and berries....my daily vice has not changed and that is one diet coke (I swear it is addictive)...I do have a steak or greasy hamburger once a month now….I am a vegetarian for the most part but do eat cold water fish 3-5x a week…I also have to give a lot of credit to my wife who is a gourmet cook and studies what is good for me…btw you can never eat enough fiber (unless you have fiber issues)…Enjoy working on Man Cave 2

Maybe there is correlation of these 2 factors to larger scope of thing.
I will throw my numbers in the hat and join the friendly competition to lighten up thing on the serious topic here
