Liver resection scheduled for tomorrow

We check into hospital for liver resection tomorrow.
Any advice? Not sure what to expect??

    I am wishing you nothing but the best that this surgery has to offer you:)

    I know you both have worked extremely hard for the opportunity for this surgery and I hope that all will go as planned.

    I started with every intention of doing a liver resection, but switched over to RFA after they opened me up and found that they could not do a resection for me.

    The surgeon had to come out of the O/R to my wife and she had to OKAY the RFA procedure that the surgeon switched to. It's called being a medical advocate for your spouse. In essence, your spouse speaks for you, because you cannot as you under anasthesia and can't make medical decisions during that time.

    So, the only thing I can offer is to be prepared to speak for your husband if the opportunity presents itself. Surgeons never know for sure what path a surgery will take, until they open us up and take a look.

    While I'm sure all will be well, just wanted you to have this heads up, as Kim was taken aback when you saw the surgeon so soon, she was not expecting to have to make a command decision only minutes into a major surgery.

    The surgeons know best, but you might have to authorize something if the original plans change.

    More folks who've had liver resection will chime in with their experience as well - I wish you nothing but good luck, healing and a speedy recovery.

    I had my liver resection done on April 6th. I was in hospital for 5 days, and back at work in 6 weeks. You can do it!!!!

    I was just in hospital for 5 days...and I would say recovery took about 4 weeks....lots of fatigue, you will need pain meds to go home with.

    I had my liver resection in
    I had my liver resection in February.....took me a little longer to bounce back. I think it's because I had 1/5 of my lung removed prior.....but don't put yourself on any "schedule" to be better! My surgeon said I would be able to do anything I did prior to surgery after 8 weeks....that just wasn't true, then I was depressed about it. I did really well recovering in the hospital....so he thought I would bounce back faster. I think I kind of plateaud. I felt good, but just not the same stamina. Started off slow in the morning.....energy for a couple of hours in the afternoon....then done in the late afternoon.
    Also....eating. docs didn't tell me that I would need alot of protein when I got home. I was STARVING every 2 hours....until I got on the boards and several mentioned I should be eating lots of protein! Did the trick. I didn't wake up in the middle of the night raiding the cupboards after I started eating better!!!

    Just wanted to let you know I am thinking of you and just said a prayer for all to go smoothly. Where is the hospital you're having surgery at?
    I had my liver resection in May 2008. Hard to believe it's been 2 years. It will be rough at first, but you WILL recover and get through it. I actually recovered more quickly than most and went on a fairly rigorous family vacation just 2-1/2 months after surgery. I was hesitant, but I did end up joining in the family fun of river rafting and horseback riding. Not everyone is the same, but just wanted to let you know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. When you're so sore you can't move, cough, or laugh, just be comforted by the fact that it won't stay that way for long.
