I realized I mixed up information. She was diagnosed at 3 years surgery was 12/2/2008. She has probably been dilated at least 20 times she just worked up to 4-6 weeks. At first she was dilated every week.
Her surgeon was Dr. Nabeel El-Amir Utica NY. She had problems after surgery she pulled out her g tube (sorry it is g or j tube)she had no idea what she was doing.
There were a lot of problems and her surgeon stopped seeing her. She was in and out of the hospital and nursing home before they found out she was aspirating on the food they were forcing her to eat. She did not return home after surgery for 8 months.
Her dilations were started with a group called Digestive Disease Medicine Of Central New York
they used the balloon method that was once a week. That stopped working and she was sent back to Dr. Nabeel El-Amir he can uses a different method of dilation.
We thought that it was working but the last two dilations have been very painful last month it took her 9 days to feel better and that time she even went to the emergency room and nothing was found. This time she is in such pain all over neck, back, throat.
She was stage 3 and she is 68.
I am not sure what type it is called. She had a tumor cut out of the esophagus and her stomach was moved up under her ribs.
She had pre-op Chemo and radiation.
It started with her not being able to swallow and she had pain.
We are looking into the Mayo clinic and she is seeing an otorhinolarngology (ears, noise and throat) soon for her voice. Her voice is very horse it started to come back until all the dilations.
Thank you.0 -
dilations
I am 35 yrs old and have survived almost 4 yrs. post surgery. I am still dilated frequently. I can usually go 3-4 months. I use a bougie (self-dilator) in bewteen. It keeps things more open...
I hope this helps...

Thank you for the information. She still can't eat well and lost another 10 pounds so off to the Mayo clinic. I will keep posted. Deana0
