Husband starting chemo, maybe

My husband may be starting chemo next week- cisplatin and gemcitobin in a 3 wk cycle. 2 days of chemo every 3 wks. He has Stage 3B there are tumors in both the left and right. surgery was canceled after a biopsy of a lymph node tested positive. Had appt. with dr. yesterday but he talked all in circle about how difficult this was being in both lungs and he didn't know if they were the same or different, but lets try the chemo and rescan after a cycle and keep the door open for surgery and/or radiation. Then left before we could ask any real nitty, gritty questions. When asked the nurse about doing chemo in our town, we have been going to a comprehensive cancer center 2 hrs from home, she got a little huffy and said we needed to decided soon what/where we wanted to go because the infusion center had a waiting list of people who are desperate to get in. As if we're just here for fun. Now, we're thinking second opinion. some place where they communicate better. Had previously been happy where we were and had seen this oncologist before. Just rambling out frustration with it all. Thank you for your stories they have been very helpful and hopeful for me.

    I vote for a 2nd opinion
    You should definitely get a 2nd opinion if you feel you are getting less than what you expect from your doctor. You are your own health advocate. Don't settle, the right doctor is out there and once you find him/her you will know it was a good decision to move on.

    Get the Second
    This is your husbands life and future your dealing with, and sometimes Doc lose that somewhere along the way. They forget they are dealing with himan beings that need to know the answers and need to be shown some level of compassion.
    I was diagnosis with stage 4 lung cancer in both lungs and lymphs, I had NSCLC in the right lung and lymphs and SCLC in the left lung in 08. I was on Carboplatin, Taxol, and Azastin for 8 treatment of 7 hours every 21 days. It was more palliative care than anything, but it did buy me more time and actually help somewhat. Tho, now because of the cancers mets to bone and brain, and the fact I have a very complicated Medical history I am now on Hospice (which has been a blessing for us).
    Dont settle for just what the Doc feels like you need to know or that you'll understand, either get hiim to explain til you do know what you wanted to know or get a second opinion.
    There are alot of survivor on this site that have gone through what you all are and can give you some helpful advice and explain other things that you may need help with, plus we're here to be supportive with out being judgemental.
