Hi,

I've been lurking a few weeks but it's time to introduce myself. A very bad, 2-week headache turned out to be a brain lesion instead of the sinus infection it was supposed to be. It's been almost 3 weeks since diagnosis of NSCLC stage IV and I'm to start chemo in two days. I think it's still sinking in; still haven't quite absorbed it all.

I don't even know what to ask at this point as medical records are scattered and still arriving at local clinic. The holiday weekend put a serious crimp in information flow but that will get better by Tuesday.

I am glad this site is here. Reading member experiences has helped me understand things far better than glossy pamphlets and technical papers alone. I am probably not as scared as I should be and yet I am most terrified for my two kids - 13 and 7. My mortality I can handle (mostly) but the thought of leaving my son and daughter so early in their lives is very tough.

I will post more as I know more. And thanks for listening.

Hi captainkam, I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis but please don't give up hope. There are many survivors of stage IV here who are doing great after treatment.

Please post again to let us know how you are doing and ask any questions you may have about your treatments or side effects. You are now a member of a club that no one wants to join but the members are great people who care very much about each other.

I have NSCLC also but mine is only stage 1, which would be wonderful if they hadn't found out 2 weeks later that I also have SCC laryngeal cancer T3 N0 M0. I have completed treatment for both cancers and am happy to say that I have now been in remission since January '10. Life is still wonderful and if I had to go through all of the treatments again I would, they can be rough but the results were fantastic.

Please stay in touch and let us know how you are doing.

Take care and stay strong, Glenna

    Hi Kaptainkam: So sorry for
Hi Kaptainkam: So sorry for what you are going through. It is very daunting indeed I know I was diagosed exactly a year ago and although I feel pretty well, thank God, I have had a rough time with no breaks in between growths. I now have brain mets and bone mets. Still feel okay except for a fractured back. I was fortunate enough to raise my children but have shed many many tears over being afraid of not seeing my grandchildren (6 mos and 2) grow up. It's the hardest thing I've ever dealt with. I will not give up -- please keep posting and let us know how you are doing. Don't give in -- fight the good fight and stay with us. Take care Laura
