ER again!
During the night I developed a major case of diarrhea, which is SO not like me. I had been having more pain than my usual chronic pain and had been somewhat constipated, so I was a bit worried about a blockage. When we did get home, minus any lunch, I called the nurse line, and the nurse advised me to go to the ER. I spent about 4 hours there, hooked to an IV with some major pain meds and anti-nausea stuff. The nurse thought the doctor would want to do a ct scan, but I was against that. My primary care doctor has warned me against too many ct scans, and I've had one fairly recently. I thought we were going to do an x-ray just to be sure about the blockage.
Ended up that I never saw a doctor. The PA was nice, but very laid back, and I think he was mostly interested in "patching me up" enough to get me out of there. Never did an x-ray or talk to me about what he thought might have happened. He was getting ready to release me, and the nurse said he wanted to know how my nausea was. I was still very nauseous, so he gave me something else, and that did me in. I'm actually scared it could have REALLY done me in. Bill was with me, and he said within minutes I was totally gone. I have no memory whatsoever of being released or the "drunk walk" Bill did to get me in the house. We left the hospital around 5, and I woke up on the bed after midnight, totally confused. I'm still rather foggy today.
I already have an appointment with my primary care doctor for Wed., who is also the Chief of Staff at the hospital. His wife was in Sunday School when Bill was telling people about it, and she was appalled. I have a feeling the appointment will include lots of conversation!
Hope everyone has a great weekend. Hoping to catch up on that lunch with Bill tomorrow.
*hugs*

No, I was diagnosed at Stage 1 and had surgery only. I've also had IBS for many years. Since the surgery, I've had continuous pain and a LOT of trouble with constipation.

Sending warm hugs to you....
I'm sorry you are having such a bad time of it....
I'm sending hugs...oh, and if you need me to send my step-daughter, well, she is an actress/model, a knockout beauty. She was with me during my ER experience, and I got such great care....3 attendings (male), 4 interns (male), and a male nurse. My FEMALE nurse just shook her head and laughed....she had given me Dilaudid IV when I first got there, and I ended up passing my obstruction all by myself!
I told my step-daughter that I wouldn't have survived that visit without her...on top of it all, she is a sweetheart!

ER is scary
Wow Gail,
I'm so sorry for your experience in ER. I certainly hope some things get ironed out with how doctors work in ER and what they do and don't do. The couple times I've been there (for blood pressure, nothing as serious as a blockage or anything else), I felt like it was a waste of time & that no nurses or doctors knew anything about how to treat me or to deal with someone with my type of cancer.
That REALLY is scary that they gave you something that knocked you out and made you so loopy. Could you have had an allergic reaction to whatever they gave you? Did you find out what it was?
I'll be interested in hearing how it went after your appt on Wed.
Take care of yourself these next few days until then!

Lisa,
It was Phenergan. I'm allergic to sulfa drugs, but I don't think I've ever had it before. I have all the paperwork, and I'm taking it with me on Wed., just in case the paperwork hasn't been forwarded properly to my doctor. I'm still very tired and funky feeling today, almost 48 hours later. Still have a dry mouth, etc. Very much looking forward to Wednesday's appointment!

I hate to hear you're in pain Gail, and hope Wednesdays Appt turns out that it was just something minor. You sound like you have a blockage, but I know the pain would bring me to my knees itself, and would have had the CT scan, to get it taken care of. After you've had so many, you kind of get to know the signs. I hope you feel better soon girl!
Hugsss!

Wow
Can't believe that they treated you like that. It seems like most ER doctors don't have a clue what to do with patients anymore. You should give your doctor a real ear full on Wednesday and hopefully this will get back to the ER doctors. Hope you are feeling better and let us know how it goes tomorrow.

My doctor happens to be Chief of Staff, so I'm going to be very happy to fill him in! I still have not gone to the bathroom since Sat., and I'm very uncomfortable and feeling dizzy and weak. Hope I get to stay home and not have to go to the "Big House".

I walked. And walked. And walked. Cleared 8 of my 9 obstructions that way. Each time I felt a wave of pain, I GENTLY bore down (like having a BM...) and used the breathing I learned during childbirth...
Please keep us posted!
