extreme numbmess in feet by Gemzar/campto

Hello ladies

My Mom had extreme numbness in her feet tonight.The side effects of this regimen looks like more than what we expect as her oncologist reassured us that the side effects would be less than Carbo/taxol.
She looked so frustrated and discouraged tonight and I am really sad.Is there anything to help this extrem numbness?

    Hi There,
    I am sorry to hear your Mom is having that side effect. I was on Carbo/Taxol/Gemzar. And I did get Neuropathy as well in my hands, arms, feet, and legs. It really isn't a good feeling to have, it feels like those parts are starting to fall asleep but they are not. There wasn't to much to be done with it. However she needs to stay warm, no to touch cold things, take very warm baths. Anything cold makes it comeout even more. Even if it seems crazy that she is cold because it's 80 outside, if she is cold, or her feet are, cover them up. Everything else to help is the normal, lots of water, vitamins, eating well, and lots of rest. If it gets to a point where it's getting a lot worse, and it's painful all day long she needs to tell her Dr. They can adjust doses so the neuropathy doesn't damage her long term. I had mine adjusted, it helped slightly, but it took almost 3 months after treatment for it to fully go away, every day got just a little bit better. It just depends on how severe it is to start out with, everyone is so different. I do wish her the best of luck, and hope this side effect stops on its own. Lots of hugs to you both.

    Hi sanan, I'm sorry to hear about your mom's feet. With much of my 1st and 2nd line chemo, I would get the numbness, but it went away after a few days. I would be surprised if her numbness stays only after one treatment. A good foot massage and warm soak will make her feel better, and hopefully it is not here to stay.

    PS After 3rd line chemo, I do have neuropathy and it is not fun, but I'm learning to live with it. It is amazing what you can handle when you think of the alternative of not using the chemo.

    I do my best to keep her warm.I even put her fruits outside the fridge a couple hours before giving them to her.Hugs

    Thanks Kathleen.She had this symptom with Carbo/taxol but last night she was telling me that she can't feel her legs.Thank God today she feels much better.Just a bit tired.Hugs

    I used carbo/taxol and my neuropathy seemed to subside after about a week or so. Hot baths helped, as did massages. Hang in there.
