Allison saw the orthopedic specialist today about the bump on her leg... good news!
He says she has an osteochondroma, which is a benign overgrowth of bone right at growth plate at the end of the fibula bone (which is the smaller leg bone in the calf, on the outside of the knee down to the ankle). He said hers is small enough that we don't need to do anything right now & he wants to check her again in six months. I asked how could he be sure it's benign & didn't we need to do an MRI or take a biopsy to be sure. He said, no, he's positive of what it is, due to its shape and appearance.
He added that it may start to bother her at some point, then they would need to remove it. I had feared the surgery for it would be a big deal, but he said since it's not part of the fibula bone, just an outgrowth, they'd just open the skin and saw the bony growth off. Thank you to all who commented and prayed. Such a relief!!!!!

My daughter has an overgrowth on the outside of her right knee shaped sorta' like a "J". We became aware of it when she was 5 yrs old. Other than it hurting some when she runs or over exerts it has been fine. She is 22 now.
Glad all is well w/your daughter. Take Care Lisa.

Good news, I bet you are really relieved. My daughter has some wierd bony thing by her knee. Sometimes bothers her a bit like coming down after serving in volleyball. Other than that she really doesn't complain about it. She has had it for years, I think junior high time and she is 31 now. She lives in downtown Chicago so she walks and bikes a lot and very active in sports and exercise. Get it checked from time to time but unless it causes problems think about just leaving it alone.
Take care - Tina0 -
