From Sonny- Update with latest testing and Oncologist Visit Today

Hello my PCa brothers and sisters,

Haven't been here in a while and I apologize. Been following my son's end of season baseball tournaments and getting him moved back home. Big adjustment on this one I tell you. His team made the regional's and was knocked out with a 2-2 record. He pitched well and garnered a little more MLB interest. Now we just have to wait on the MLB draft in June and see what happens.

I just got home from my visit with the Medical Oncologist and here is the latest.

My latest PSA has gone back down to 1.2 from the 1.3 the last time. They configured my doubling time to be a little longer than 9 months. At this point the doc said he doesn't want to do another PSA for 3 months and wants to see me in three months. He said we will hold off on the HT discussion until then. It may be that my PSA is just going to settle in at 1.0 to 1.2 for a while.

On another front, we went over the details of the SF PET Scan. While it is apparent that I face some issues with osteo-arthritis in the future, especially in the area of the spine, it seems to be in keeping with someone my age who has been as active as I have been in sports for so long.

Sadly, the scan also found a single lytic lesion in my body; "There is a single lytic lesion in the lateral aspect of the left femoral head with a peripheral rim of sclerosis and increased F18 uptake. This may represent an early osseous metastatic focus as there is no adjacent bony structure to degenerative changes."

So I have an appointment with the Rad Onco next Friday to discuss doing radiation treatment on the lesion. My doc said that if it was in a rib or something he would take a wait and see approach, but since it is in a major weight bearing location and could cause real problems in the future, he wants to go ahead and zap the thing and stop it's development and growth.

The really gooder news belongs to my wife. On February 4th I dropped off a package of all her medical records and disability application to the offices of Social Security. Given her forced disability retirement at the young age of 53, we were advised to look into it. Two days ago she received a call from Social Security telling her that "She Was Approved for Social Security Disability". They were sending her retroactive check electronically to her bank account and it should be there by the end of the week, today. I gotta say that with all of the stories we hear, read and see on TV about the approval process, this is nothing short of fantastic that it took slightly less than four months from beginning to end.

So in conclusion, Good News- PSA stabilizing, Gooder News- wife's quick approval for SS Disability and Carppy News- looks like I get to wear the "Radiant Personality Tee-Shirt for another rad go-round.

5/7/10 PSA test 1.3 Sodium Fluoride PET Scan & CT SCAN -scheduled
5/20/10 PSA test 1.2 Holding off on future tests for 3 months- single lytic lesion found and scheduling radiation.
