Xeliri vs Folfori ?

Can anyone give me any information about Xeliri vs Folfori. My onc wants to start me on Folfori. I have an appointment with him tomorrow to discuss this due to my pet scan showing increase in lungs. I have been on Xeloda alone since 9/09 and Xeolda with Avastin since 10/09.

I have had very minimal side effects with Xeloda. I have been able to work full time and take care of my daughter.

I am dreading going back to the pump for the 5FU. When I started on Folfox in 3/09 after dx. My locan onc and onc at Sloan never even mentioned the option of xeloda instead of 5fu even though I constantly told them how much I disliked the pump.

Everything that I have read on the internet seems to indicate that the results are similar for xeliri vs folfori.

Can anyone give me any more information ?

How many of you have done Xeliri ?

    In 2007 I was on a 6-cycle regime of Xeloda, Irinotecan and Avastin. I received the Avastin and Irinotecan via infusion, then two weeks of xeloda, followed by a week off (with daily neupogen)

    I've also done the 5FU pump with both Oxy and irinoteacn. I can't say which is more effective. What I liked about the pump was that it was all over after two days and I began feeling better. The Xeloda seemed to prolong the nausea and fatigue. Both have their advantages. The pump must offer some benefit otherwise I can't see them using it so often.

    There may be a reason they want you to do the 5FU. Ask the oncologist. Does it make a difference to your insurance?

    Do you still have your port?

    Whichever way your go Brenda, you are going to cope well with it, work when you can, take care of your daughter and enjoy the good moments that summer brings!

    increase your xeloda
    Rather than the pump, see if they'll increase your dose of xeloda.

    Yes I still have my port. I really tolerated the Xeloda a lot better than the 5-fu. I have done both. I really hated wearing the pump and having to go to the oncologist to get it disconnected.

    I know that I will cope with either regimin. I think that I will feel better once I get started. I tend to over think everything.

    I plan to enjoy the summer. I am going to the shore June 10 the day after school gets out !

    My Onc feels that Xeleri is just as good as folfori. I will not be doing folfori now as I posted in another thread, but I was thrilled to hear that. Brenda

    Brenda,

    I'm glad to hear your onc ended up feeling ok w/ the xeleri instead of folfiri. I enjoyed coming home after chemo today, myself, with NOT having the 5FU pump hanging off me & it felt so nice! I've been on the Xeloda for just a week now, and am tolerating with no side effects so far. I know they're cumulative, but so far so good, anyhow. :)

    Just saw my onc today. I had thought I was looking at Folfiri but had asked my onc (by email prior to our consultation) if we could discuss Xeliri and, somewhat to my surprise, he agreed to it. Turns out he has quite a lot of experience with Xeliri....

    I am feeling great about this For me, Folfiri would have involved not only a 48 drip but a 48+ hr hospitalization -- for various reasons. Phew! Hard to be feeling "yee-hah" about starting chemo again -- but I kinda am!

    happy to hear from others who have experienced/are experiencing xeliri

    Hi Tara,

    Glad to hear you've got a plan you're feeling good about. The irinotecan isn't completely easy, but more manageable than the oxaliplatin.
    I haven't done xeliri specifically, but I've taken xeloda before and am so glad to have recently switched from the 5FU pump to Xeloda while taking Gemzar and Avastin. Had chemo yesterday & it's great to not have that pump on me right now! My hands and lower arms are feeling a bit tingly, though, which does remind me of the oxy days. Gemzar isn't supposed to cause neuropathy, but the tingles are there- supposedly rare with Gemzar- leave it to me go get the rare side effects- lol.
