pugs are for punting
breeds of dogs include hunting dogs and punting dogs - pugs are of the punting variety.
I love dogs and cats - we have had the worst run with cats though - all nasty bitter animals. I wanted to rescue a couple of greyhounds, but my wife has a phobia about big dogs. I mean they really scare her. I would love a dog, medium size or bigger, but it seems I will pass from this world dogless.
This thread is depressing me. Nice story though Kerry!
Give all you dogs a bark and a hug for me, those of you with medium size or bigger dogs. Those with small dogs go ahead and kick them once for me. Okay, okay, okay - you can hug them too - cancer has made me soft.0 -

I am a cat lover ! I have one cat who behaves like a dog. She is an "only pet" and likes it that way. She is very affectionate and has a great personality. She wants to be right next to my daughter or I all the time.
We have never had a dog. I would love a dog , but have always been worried about not having enough time to spend with the dog, and he work involved. I also don't think my cat would ever adjust to another pet.
I think the Golden Doodles are adorable and border collies are really cute. After hearing all of you talk about your dogs, it makes me want to go get one.0 -

Brenda,
We have a zoo, I guess. In addition to our dog and her puppies (we'll probably keep one puppy), we also have three Persian cats. One is 5 yrs old & the other two are 11 week old siblings. When raised together, they get along great!
Your cat won't like a dog at first since it's not used to dogs, but if you get the dog as a puppy, they'll eventually get along well with each other!

Pugs are best!
I agree, but Boston Terriers are better!!!! I always loved pugs but they shed alot so I opted for the Boston Terrier. I have 2 and they never shed. They are my best buds!0 -
Llasa Apso's
I have 3 of them Romeo Portifino Oceano, Julietta Maria, and their son Kiwi Chu Chu Chen #II. Also 3 cats.
Love each of them.
It's so nice to have an animal to cuddle late at night when everyone else is asleep and unavailable. Either a dog or cat are always around and ready for a petting.0 -
How about basset hounds?
We love basset hounds and we've always had at least one basset. They are loving and lovable, full of personality, and comical in everything they do. The basset in my picture is Buddy, who we lost to cancer last fall while I was having chemo. He competed in dog agility with me and he always amazed people with his speed and enthusiasm.
Now we have one basset, Lulu, who is mischievous but adorable. We also have two beautiful mixed breeds, a sweet little elderly sheltie mix and a long-legged young black and white spotted girl.0 -

Love my poodle! She makes me laugh and she insists on walks everyday. She is great company and very affectionate.0 -
Pugs are cute....
my sister and niece each have one. One's name is Charlie and other is Chloe. They're both precious animals.
We have a mixed whatever. She is definitely lovable and would never hurt a soul. I think she's part min-pin and some kind of cowdog since we got her from one of our cowboy friends. She is like my fourth child. She's close to 15 years old and we got her when she was about 4 weeks old. She could pee a puddle bigger than she was.
We also LOVE, LOVE, LOVE border collies. They make great cow dogs and are very loyal to their master. We also owned McNabs. They are also great cow dogs and are also very loyal to their master. They are very protective of family, though.
We had a McNab and a Collie in our early years of marriage. Our kids weren't more than 5 and 2 at the time. Our son wasn't born for a few more years. Our McNab was pregnant as was the collie. They still worked cows for us, but our McNab was kicked by a cow and slinked her pups. The collie gave birth to several healthy babies. The McNab and the Collie took turns taking care of and nursing those puppies. Each took turns staying at our line shack to care for them, both being excellent mothers. Every pup was always spoken for after they were born. We kept one. When we quit cowboying, and moved, we gave her to a friend of ours who still cowboyed. They neighbor stole her and fed her steak and gave her a bed next to his. She died a happy dog, which is what we always want for our "family".0 -
accidental love
When I diagnosed with cancer, my two sons were age 10 and 12. It was a pretty rough year for them. My youngest son, in particular, is a sensitive, introspective soul. I promised myself that when I finished my treatment (which ended up to be 4 about to be 5 treatments, but that's another story), I would get him a dog. Smartest thing I ever did in my life. Our dog ended up to be best friend, confidant, etc. etc. And then a funny thing happened. Have to confess I never really liked dogs -- this was purely something I was doing for my boys. Then the darndest thing happened - I fell in love with that dog! I like to walk/hike. My husband travels and my kids are growing up, moving out. Now it's me and dog - and it's good.
A dog-rescue mutt, in my case. Accidental love!

Bassets, you bet!!Daffodil324 said:How about basset hounds?

Of course I have met few dogs I didnt like. I wont say which ones dont wish to hurt feelings, Ill just say if they fit in your purse, well I am glad they found a home with You, lol..
We have a basset/beagle mix, built like a basset in everyway but the coloration is that of a beagle. he is a rescue dog. when we first brought him home he would drive himself crazy if we left and he didnt go with us. We kenneled him and he had got so upset he was covered in his own waste and shaking by the time we got back. He has gotten better about us leaving now although I cant make myself put him in the kennel anymore, no matter what they say about how much they supposedly love it.
He is the most affectionate, lazy dog I have ever seen. The brids, squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks etc... are on high alert still when he is outside but he has never chased any of them, which I find quite curious, a non hunting beagle/hound hmmmm? He will follow me through the house and always wants to be within eye sight of what I am doing. others have posted there beagle is led by their stomachs, with Otis its his nose. out for a walk his head is never raised far enough to get them long ears off the ground. If something is farther then 20 feet ahead of him, it might as well not even exsist!
And you are so right about mischeievous, it is like having a 4 year old in the house again. he knows he is doing something he shouldnt but does it anyway and then slinks when you catch him.
He will never win any dog shows, I dont really think he is all that bright, but he sure is number one in our hearts!!0 -

graci I wrote that I didnt think my Otis was the brightest (basset beagle mix) your comment:
"I do have a theory about the Beagle though.
They have a reputation as not being the smartest dog! I have to disagree with that.
They just pretend to be dumb, and that insures them, to anything they want!"
has got me thinking, he is smart enough to make us think he is not the brightest....
I take back what i said seems the dog may be smarter then me!!!
I agree with you all our dogs have been rescue or from someone with a litter of mutts.
I personally think mutts make better pets and require far less "maintenance"

same thing happened to my mom when I was young (fortunately not the cancer part) but she got the dog for me. When I left for the service that dog was her best friend and companion. That to me is the magic dogs posses!0
