Zofran
Now the prescription he has for this time is Zofran. Has anyone used this and how did it work. The directions say to take two a day as needed.
I am worried that it will not work as well has the others.

Zofran
Hi Puma,
I had heavy dosage of Cisplatin for chemo. I was given 3 prescriptions to take the 3 days following the chemo. They were Emend, Dexamathasone and Zofran. They worked great as I never got sick immediately after chemo. However about a week later I usually got nausea. I checked with the doc and he said the Zofran would work best. That's what I used and for me, it worked. The only problem was my insurance would only let me have 12 pills every 30 days, so if I ran out I had to buy them myself. When that happened my doc gave me Lorazapam, which worked but not as well as the Zofran.
Hope that helps with your dad.

Emend & Zofran
I also had Emend for the day of and the next two days when I was having the three large doses of chemo (Cisplatin, Taxotere and 5FU). Then just Zofran if need during and inbetween cycles and also for the seven weeks of Carboplatin.
I only physically got sick once and that was more a mental thing.
I could easily get sick feeling just at the thought of having to go back in for chemo. It was like when you eat something and get sick from it, just the thought of what you ate makes you sick feeling.

Ativan
Your dad was given ativan. My doctors gave me prescriptions for emend, zofran, and compazine. Emend for "before", taken before chemo on days 1 and 2, and another pill on day 3 for good measure. The zofran was to be taken every eight hours, for at least three days, and then as needed. The compazine was every 4 to 6 hours for breakthrough nausea. Later, I was given ativan, and told it would help me sleep, but the label from the pharmacist said "for nausea." Didn't care for the compazine, because it left me feeling weird, but all the meds worked. For the most part, all I needed to take was the zofran. If it doesn't work for your dad, have him ask for an additional prescription. No reason why he shouldn't hav it.0 -
