    Ovarian/Breast Cancer
    Hello,
I am 47 years old. I had breast cancer in 1991,2007, and 2008. All Stage I. In 2009 I got Stage 2 ovarian cancer. There is a connection. I just want you to know that things are not hopeless. Right now things may seem overwhelming. The breast cancer is alot easier to deal with. The ovarian cancer will take more work. Keep up the faith and be strong. I am a survivor. Thank-You, Paula

    Did they stage your mom's
Did they stage your mom's OVCA from CT/PET scan results, or what? Most all of us were staged at the time of surgery.

There is definitely a connection between breast and ovarian cancer. Has your mom had the genetic testing done? For the sake of you, your siblings and her grandchildren, you should encourage your mom to be tested for the BRCA gene mutation.

    Thanks for all the support.
Thanks for all the support. You women truly inspire me. I too,at age 40, was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. I am now 46. Thank God. I had a lumpectomy and sentinal node surgery. I had chemo (lost all my hair-grew back thicker but darker) and radiation and Xeloda chemo (pill form). I also had a voluntary total hysterectomy (already adopted a wonderful child and my family was complete, again thru God's fine hand). My mom opted out of the Brca test, but was given stage 4 by the CT test, which I spent a lot of yesterday decifering. I spent time on these discussion boards when I was diagnosed and looked here again with mom. I think everyone was ready to give up on her, being stage 4, but after reading here I have hope (a lot of the battle). It seems they put a lot of money testing breast cancer. I do think ovarian is connected and will also be included with the breast cancer studies very soon. Please everyone continue to fight. I have to encourage my family. Some think its a death sentence anytime the "C" word is mentioned. I am going to the original breast dr. (Oncologist) with my father and mother tomorrow in Fishers, Indiana. I have a list of questions and don't want to listen to months or timetables any doctor states. You all gave me that hope. I truly believe there is more than science involved here. Thanks for all your kind responses. What comes around goes around and good will surely come around to you. Prayers,
    Vicki

    Breast cancer link
I think there is a link between the 2. It has something to do with the oestrogen. I have Primary Peritoneal Cancer (same tissue type as ovca) and have just been tested positive for BRCA2. I am going to the breast insitute for an appointment soon as I have a family history of breast cancer.

There is such a lot the doctors can do today, don't give up. I will be thinking about you.

    If it's any consolation,
If it's any consolation, BRCA positive women tend to do better when diagnosed with OVCA than BRCA negative ones.

I would like suggest that you encourage your mom to see a Gyn/Oncologist specialist. Studies show that women treated by them fare better than those treated by non-specialty oncologists.
