My morning

Hi, everyone.

I had a nice morning. I was invited to a local elementary school to speak about being a cancer survivor. It was just a short talk to some 2nd graders. The school does a mini Relay for Life each year. When the kids came out to hear me speak, they had all brought money to put in a bucket. The PE teacher, who planned the event and invited me, said they usually raise several huner dollars. After I spoke, my little granddaughter Caroline(in her stroller) and I led them in a lap around the track. Nice morning! I told the kids they were all heroes for raising money to help cancer patients.

    That is so special. What a wonderful thing for you to do. Bet it was hard to talk to 2nd graders about cancer - they probably don't have any idea about this terrible disease. Way to go Gail. Thanks for the great work.

    I bet those kids went home and told their parents about the nice lady who came and talked to them at school today!

    It actually wasn't too hard. I told them that when I was their age thst people didn't talk about cancer much, because they were afraid you could catch cancer from someone, or that if you got cancer you might not be able to get well. Then I told them the American Cancer Society gave money to people who have studied to find ways to help people with cancer, and their money would help. And I also told them they could stay healthier by getting enough sleep, eating lots of fruits and veggies, exercising every day, and having regular checkups.

    So I think it went okay! And I told them about finding out I had cancer 2 1/2 years ago, and that I'm doing well now. It was fun!

    You planted some seeds that day - and one day, the fruits of your labor will blossom - and you helped to raise money for a great cause - and you got the kids involved.

    And while it may be too far off in the future for most of us...
    maybe some of those kids will be inspired to enter the medical field to cure this beast.....
