stomach cramps

So I have been on oxy for 8 cycles now. I had 8 previous back in 2007. This last dose was harder on me. The problem was when I left the office I didn't check the hip pack to make sure the pump was working. I always check it before I leave but I didn't this time. So when I got ready for bed that night I noticed the pump wasn't turned on. I didn't want to turn it on myself because I didn't know if had been set for the correct amt to be given. so the next day I went back to onc and they started the pump but sped up the dose so I wouldn't have to have it a day longer. I was told I probably wouldn't notice the difference. Well, I was more sick and have been having cramping quite a bit after I eat. It's been 2 weeks post drip and I still have some cramping. Has anyone had this experience from the 5-fu or oxy??? Can the 5-fu cause more nausea when given faster??? JIll

To be honest I have no clue. George never complained of stomach cramping but speeding up the pump to give you 48 hour dose in 24 hours, well, that just might do it.
Just wanted to bump this post up so others might respond. It kinda got lost in that one discussion that was posted 10 times.

I had stomach cramps for ajillpls said:thank you for keeping it up there
Strange that no one has had stomach cramps. They are getting better but what causes them??? Anyone care to guess???

I had stomach cramps for a bit right after I got disconnected from the pump other than that no cramps at all during the infusions.

i would think most certainly
given the fact that 5fu causes diarea (sp) and instead of infusion for 48hrs to do the same amount in 24hrs i think most certainly can cause stomach cramps. this particular chemo can cause side effects that can surface 12 days out plus. let the oncologist know again what's going on and i also bet you won't leave the office again without making sure pump is on. i'm not sure why they told you you "probably wouldn't notice the difference?" it seems to me they would have made it speacially clear to pay attention to possible side effects because due to infusion being increased by 100% i think they would error on the side of caution. anyway, i hope these responses have helped?

thank you for the responses
yes, I do believe the 5-fu was the culprit for all the cramping. I'm supposed to have another drip this next Monday but I'm postponing it. I have since gotten the flu and my bowels are going nuts! So it's time for a break. Thanks again for responding. You guys are great and always a reservoir of information. God bless
