    Melo,

I think some of our Stage IV memebers might be able to give you some ideas but probably will need to know a bit more about your mom.

Since she's on AVASTIN, I know she's Stage IV. When was she dx'd? Colon or rectal? How much liver involvment?

I'm on EST and heading out to church soon, but am sure you'll have others jump in and give you some advice. Meanwhile, look up Ascites. See if this description fits mom's tummy.

    Hi Melo!
I took Folfiri with Avastin for over 15 months, but have never experienced a growing belly. Is it maybe swelling up with fluid? I hope dr. checks this out soon.

    Hugsss!

    swelling belly
I had that side effect with my first recurrence, a tumor on my right ovary; it was ascites. tumors weep. The fluid can be drained off, to make your mother more comfortable. Once I first had it drained, I had to go in almost every week to get more drained off. I always knew it was time when I was unable to eat and my bowels wouldn't move; the ascites was filling all available space in my abdomen and not allowing for expansion of any of my organs. The sonogram will verify the location of the fluid, my onc drained the fluid in the office, using a local anesthetic.

    Hi Melo,

Do you happen to know what Stage your mom is? My mom was Stage IV with mets to the liver and developed sudden swelling in her abdominal area in the last few months. She did have fluid drained one time but in her case there wasn't much fluid but mostly just that her tumors had grown large.

I hope that your mother's swelling goes away & she goes on to have successful treatment. All the best to you!

Eating Pineapple helps reduce swelling - here some sites

    Stage IV
well yesterday after ultrasound found that is Ascites!and should be drained .yes she is stage IV and multiple mets to the liver and ovaries.liver resection 5 months ago but not helpful and after 25 days mets to all part of the liver!
Now she is on Folfiri and Avastin.
The Onco says because of the volume of the liver and nodules it happens.
Thank god that She is in a good condition now.
    thanks all for the info
