I will be starting Doxil soon and I would like to hear from ladies who have been on it. What side effects did you experience? Did your hair thin at all? My main concern is the hand & foot problems. I just recently started knitting and I'm afraid I'll have to give it up for a while. Thanks ladies! Blessings to each of you :)

I only had 2 rounds with Doxil before my gyn-onc switched me to Gemzar. My issues were related to bone marrow suppression (late nadir which led to delays in treatment) and other skin issues he thought might be radiation recall - from breast ca radiation. I had previously had Adriamycin for the breast ca as well which limited my life-time available dose of Doxil. He never felt that my issues were the typical hand-foot-syndrome. I did have on and off nausea/queasiness for about 2 weeks after ea inf. No noticeable hair thinning though :-).

I have had two doxil and avastin. I go to the doxil site and follow their directions; I use ice on my ankles and wrists during chemo and for two days after wards. I have not had any rashes. I feel very well on it; my biggest side effect is I could take a long nap every day which is not typical of me. I haven't lost hair after two cycles. My guess is you could start knitting the second week after taking it. You could call the doxil people and ask; they have a good web site. www.doxil.com

Hi Natalie, I had 5 cycles of doxil, and most recently 3/ doxil/carbo. I get the icing on my ankles and wrists and follow all the do's and don'ts as much as possible. After the 4th dose I did break out in blisters on my feet, but after lowering the dose, they went away. I don't have nausea or hair loss. I do have some low energy but that seems to go along with most chemo. It has not affected my labs at all. My CA125 has been stable at 130ish. I had the doc add in the carbo, hoping to get it a bit lower, so I could take a chemo break.

As far as knitting, it probably depends on how much of it you are doing in one day. I would avoid it the first week probably but add it in after that, but not all day. We are all so different and that was confirmed to me when I ran into a cute little lady in the chemo room the other day who is also on doxil for the last 12 months. She doesn't do anything special other than the icing she gets from the chemo room on the day of infusion. She even takes hot baths. Go figure!

Wishing you the best on this chemo!!

I had five infusions of Doxil. No hair loss, no nausea. I did get a rash on my feet and legs. I did no ice, none at all. My feet itch and the skin peels. My cycle was moved to evvery 4 weeks instead of every 3 weeks. I did get mouth sores but a presciption rinse really helped with that. I do drink hot tea daily and I did take a hot bath once. No problems with my hands at all. I do use gloves when doing dishes though.

    Good luck

I have had 3 rounds so far. I do get the mouth sores and use the mouthwash which really helps. I also use Kank-a which is over the counter and helps numb the mouth sores so I can eat. I take anti-nausea pills for 3 days and don't get sick. I have the hand syndrom which lasts about a week and makes it painful to grip things. No foot syndrom. I manage to work and only miss 2 days a month due to being tired. All in all it isn't bad. Good Luck to you and keep us updated.
