bleeding (rectal) after 4 months of remmission

Is this "normal?" It is not heavy but regular as rain. some pain assoiated with it. E.R. doc sugggessts visit with my surgeon. Will do this but wonder if anyone can give me their own experience.

    Have you had radiation in your pelvic area? I know that I have a friend whos uncle was radiated for prostate cancer and due to the radiation has blood everyday, and this will be a part of his daily life. Please check with your drs asap. I have been treated for anal cancer and occasionally have blood, not a lot, usually if I have a hard bm. Also I attribute this to fissures and irritation caused by the radiation. Lori

    Thanks for your reply so quickly. Mine is not always afterbm sometimes bright red sometimes darker. it also occurs during actvity i.e. walking. sometimes I wonder if it still from weakened sphincter control and is possibly stool leakage/

    Hi Sandra--

    I am almost 20 months post-treatment and still have bouts of bleeding with BM's. My colorectal doctor does not seem concerned about this and my exams have all been normal. My rad onc told me it's radiation damage. Radiation causes the blood vessels to be closer to the surface or lining of our bowels. As things pass by, any irritation can cause bleeding. It still freaks me out somewhat when I bleed, but I don't panic. And I ALWAYS tell my doctors during my appts. that it happens. I am scheduled for a colonoscopy in early June and my colorectal doc has told me that if she sees any area that is bleeding, she will biopsy. Needless to say, I am hoping that there will be no bleeding!

    Hi Sandra,
    I'm assuming you have had radiation in the pelvic area. If so, then the bleeding could be from a fissure or after affects of radiation. The best think is to check with your doctor and he or she can check for fissure or hemis. It's not uncommon and makes sense to have your doctor check it out so that it can be treated.
