Avastin
I had Avastin inc. with Oxiplatin on cycle 6: experienced side effects - turned out the Ox. was the problem. Cycle 7 had only Avastin (am on Xeloda tabs as well) and so far no side effects besides minor neuropathy hands and feet. My Onc. is thinking of leaving me on Avistan as a precautin once I reach remission. Compared with the s/e from Oxiplatin, Avastin has been a relief. But, from what I can gather, individuals respond diffently. All the best.0 -
avastin for 2 years
Hi, I've been on Avastin for over 2 years now and very little side effects. The bloody nose was one but now that I swab my nose with extra virgin olive oil at night with a q-tip the bleeding has gone away. As for high blood pressure, I walk every day (3.5 miles or more) so it's keeping my pressure down. Exercise is very important to maintaining health.0 -

Have been on Avastin for about 15 months now, and have been fine, no noticeable side effects, not even a bloody nose.
Hugsss!

muscle pain
I had severe muscle pain while on Avastin, but I never connected it to the Avastin. Now, I'm wondering, as I've been off from Avastin since November and my muscle pain has also been gone for almost that amount of time. I was on Avastin for close to 2 yrs out of the 2 yrs, 8 mos. since my cancer diagnosis. Hmmm......
I was beginning to think I had fibromyalgia, my muscles ached so much. I'd feel like I had run a marathon or worked out for hours and hours- that was how sore I'd get, but I had done nothing to make them sore. Interestingly, I haven't had any of that for months now. After my drs. telling me I did not have fibromyalgia, I just attributed it to the chemo. I'm on chemo now again (gemzar with 5FU/leucovorin)and I now have no problem with muscle pain.I was just thinking about that the other day- how nice it is that I can move without muscle aches and pain. The soles of my feet used to always hurt too- especially when I'd first step down on them after getting up in the morning or after sitting for awhile & that no longer happens anymore either. Hmmm.....
My onc has talked about adding the Avastin back in soon, but he wanted to see how my blood counts did on this other stuff alone first. It will be interesting if I do end up going back on Avastin to see if the muscle pain comes back. If it does, then I would think it would definitely point to the Avastin. Avastin wreaked havoc on my blood pressure before and caused nose bleeds- those were the only side effects I noticed before, but am betting now that the muscle pain was also caused by it.
