The treatments they have now a days are much different then in the 60's and 70's, I will tell you that for a fact. Now that I am older, it takes a lot out of me. leaves me weak, drained of energy and very sick.0 -
I hope it goes well for you.totallcowboy said:hi, thanks for writing

My husband has been dealing with aml since 8-05 he had an allo transplant. Did just chemo work for you the first 2 times?0 -
I got AML in March 09, and
I got AML in March 09, and went in remission in April 09. Have been there since. My doctor tells me that the longer it's treated after remission is achieved, the longer it's likely to STAY that way. So yeah, there does seem to be a fair chance of it coming back over time.
But yeah, the treatment I got was very specialized and engineered for the specific genetic defect that I had. Apparently the genetic defect I suffer from makes the leukemia more treatable than some other genetic defects.0 -
Hello Totallcowboy
Hello Totallcowboy,
Wow, I didn't know it was possible to have a relapse after so many years.
What kind of leukemia did you have when you were 3? AML? ALL? LMC?
I had ALL when I was 6, and I'm now 29 and luckily no relapse or side effects.
How was it like to have leukemia in the 60s? What do you remember about it?
Good luck for the chemo and radiation.

I had Aml in may '09 and it
I had Aml in may '09 and it wad really a nightmare the 5 cycles of chemo I had to finish. Now that I'm done with last feb. The nightmare still stays on due to the fact that my dr said that this illness has a high %age of coming back w/in 2-5 years. However we now have stem cell transplant w/c although life threatening if dine gives more chance that it will not come back and be totally cured. I wasn't able to do it due to it takes awhile to find a match for me. Hence we just continued to finish 5 cycles and pray for it not to come back or else I will have to get a transplant w/c I already found s donor from my own sibling living in my home country. I feel so much for you as I've always hope iwont have to deal with this again or else I'm giving up. I know gruesome it is w/ ur life placed on hold indefinitely , people poking on you all the time and having a picc line for a long time. But you have to be strong and take life one day at a time. Pray that god will help you and sustain you to get through all these. Believe in God that thy will be done. Keep a positive attitude and find peace in your heart to get through inspite of this crisis. God bless always.0
