This is some information I found while wasting time on the www.

New drug combination for relapsed ovarian cancer
by Karen R · December 7th, 2009
Women whose platinum-sensitive ovarian cancer has relapsed lived a little longer and had fewer side effects on a new combination of drugs compared to the standard treatment, a new study has found.

The new regimen features a combination of carboplatin and something called pegylated liposomal doxorubicin. Women on this new regimen went just under two months longer before their disease began to progress compared to women on the standard treatment of carboplatin and paclitaxel. But they had much lower rates of neutropenia, neuropathy and alopecia. They did face higher rates of thrombrocytopenia and an inflammatory condition.

    interesting!
I did ask my oncologist about giving the Doxil with a second agent. She told me that Doxil is usually given as a single agent. I know I will eventually be on carbo and taxol again. Probably saving that for my last hurrah.

    doxil/carbo
Hi Carlene, a few of us are on this treatment now. I started out with single agent doxil and added in the carbo a couple months ago. Will get results soon. Crossing fingers and toes for a good tumor marker dive!

    Doxil and Carboplatin
I'm on both -- Thursday will be 4th infusion, but first a scan to see if it's working. My numbers keep going up. I have also developed a severe pain in my right kidney area, so they want to see what's going on there. I have taken Doxil plus Carbo the whole time. Thursday I will get the results of the scan and will probably have some sort of chemo that day whether they stay on the carbo/Doxil or change to something else.

The Doxil has caused me quite a bit of nausea (bad nausea!) during the first week after infusion. Some hand and foot, mainly hand syndrome. I'm taking a lot of pain pills right now for the kidney pain. It hurst just to breath let alone try to yawn. So something's up for sure.

Please pray that they'll be able to figure it out on Thursday. Thank you, ladies. You're all wonderful.

    Blessings,

    Marty

Are you back from your cruise?
I recently had my 5th infusion of Doxil. WHat have your numbers been? I started at 15 and proceded as follows: 30, 22, 18, 21, 19. This week I've been having a mild stomach ache started about 5 days after my infusion. Of course I'm trying not to freak out about the stomach ache. Good luck with your back pain. It is sooooooooooo scary. I've been very distracted all day with my stomach issues. I am scheduled for my ca125 in 2wks from Thursday. I may call my doctor and ask her to do it earlier...3wks from infusion.

    Hi Nancy,

Yes, I got back from my cruise to Bermuda on Sunday. It was the last couple of days that I had the horrible pain in my side. I missed one entire day while in bed, but the rest of the time I was able to do quite a bit even though my legs and hands were quite swollen.

My numbers were 22, 28, 32, 38, 49. At the highest, before my initian surgery in 2008, my number was 58 and I was covered in cancer IIIC with lymph node involvement, but good debulking. I had seven months of remission and here I am again. Thursday will be the day I find everything out. Maybe it won't be as bad as I'm thinking. I saw my psychiatrist today and he upped my antidepressant and Ativan because it's not helping as much through this time. He wants me to cut back a little on work, but I'm so afraid of losing my job, I'm trying to work full time as much as possible. But I told him I'd check into it if I get really bad news on Thursday.

Thanks for asking, Nancy. Bermuda was so beautiful. I think everyone painted their homes the day before we came. Everything was so well manicured!

    similar circumstance
I don't know if you remember but I have a very simmilar history as you. I was dx stage IV Sept '08. After about an 7-8month remission I had a confirmed recurrence on my colon. My inital ca125 was 720 prior to surgery. 70 after surgery and my post treatment ca125 was 7. ca125 might not be a good marker for me anymore because when I had my confirmed recurrence I was at a 10. I restarted chemo with Doxil Jan '10. I was initially every 3 weeks but is bumped to every 4 weeks due to foot rash. The rash is the worst of my symptoms.

I went on my honeymoon cruise to Bermuda on Celebrity cruise lines out of NYC in May '02. How was the weather? It was warm but not warm enough for my taste. The ocean was definately not warmm enough. I think about going on a trip now but I am afraid to leave the USA. My husband wants to go to Bahamas but I am a bit leary. Thinking maybe Cape Cod, LBI in NJ, or Maryland. I want some ocean and some sun. It's been a long winter.
