ittapp UPDATE on Patti P.
I saw Patti a couple of times last week. She did get chemo on wed eve, I was there during that time and she tolerated it well. I think she has been experienceing more pain so possibly a CT was going to be done. I haven't heard if it has been done and/or results.
I hesitate to say how she is really doing- it seems to fluctuate, last weekend things didn't look very hopeful and then she perked up and started saying more and advancing her diet etc.!
I think she is aware of most of what is going on, she responds appropriately and continues to say words and names, I love you etc. It is hard to know though what she is really thinking and experienceing she has a "blank stare" often.
My heart just hurts so much because I know how frustrated she is! I haven't talked to her husband today so don't have the latest but our pastor saw her and said she seemed a little stronger today.
I'll try to get a better update for you to post. Thanks, Lisa

Thank you so very much for the update. I keep checking her care pages but there have been no updates in a week. That poor girl has been in so much pain since those sir spheres. I just keep wondering what the heck went wrong. Maybe being off chemo in preparation for the sir spheres allowed things to get out of control, or maybe something was going on that the docs did not know about, just can't figure it out. Hopefully she will respond to the chemo and do well with rehab.
Thanks again.

As does mine ♥. In a way, I hope she isn't really clear on what all has happened. I think that would be just heartbreaking.
The talc treatment she had is said to 'provide comfort' and quality of life for up to X months. I have no idea what they are planning now. I just hope the doctors don't give up on her because of the stroke.

Let's hope indeed, Diane.
Her brother mentioned to me that there was talk of moving her to a nursing home - but the family is resisting that approach and not going to do it. I hope that does not happen either, her rehab is going to be so important. What's really frustrating is it seems the doctors there are not giving her the due attention that she needs. Fortunately, she has many in her family there standing guard, so that is a comfort.

Patti had shared on this forum a month or so ago that they were facing financial ruin. If I remember correctly, I think she said they might lose their beautiful home.
I would venture to guess she'll need to 'go on Medicare' ..... There will come a point where the hospital will no longer keep her and her husband has to work. Maybe a support system from their church.... within their home....
This is heart breaking.0 -

I missed that one - now, I'm really heartbroken. These things should just not happen in 2010. With all the $$$ that are being squandered in this world that could be helping folks like her, in her time of need.
Another miracle is needed here, I'm afraid if she gets into a bad facility, she won't get the care she deserves - she's much too young to be put away - she's young and vibrant - and she still has to chemo through this. This lady is showing us another side of courage.
It just feels so helpless...let's hope the next update is a good one.0 -

A few days before Patti's stroke I was afraid she would be the next to turn worse, She was Dx the same time as me and we talked a few times on the telephone, Her experiences are simular.
I hope she comes thru this and regains what she can to beat this cancer, I search this site everyday for updates
Thanks Diane for keeping us informed, If you see her please let her know we are all praying for her.

home care
Hi Diane
One thing the family can look into is at the Dept of human services. I went there for my mom after she had a stroke. They have waiver programs and a program called passport. This pays for home help, regardless of financial situation if she can get a waiver. They would come to mom's home 3 times a day, for 2 hours each visit, help with hygiene, light house cleaning, meal preparation and so on. They also have nurses and home health aids. The cost for these services is much less than nursing home costs, and they are there to help people stay in their home instead of going to a nursing home. None of this cost my mom a penny. Also, she might be able to get some help with hospice, they also have home help available. Maybe between some assistance from these programs, and family helping out she can go home. Physical therapy can be done at home also, they did so with my mother.

Sorry to hear that things are so bad for Patti. I will keep praying for her and her family. margaret
....Sick about this! Does she now have family to put her up instead of finding her somewhere else or am I not reading this right?? She's so young, and was so energetic and full of life, I just hate what this disease is doing to her.
What's the best place to get in contact with her or even talk to her? Is she able to talk? there doesn't seem to be any knowledge on how she is dealing with this, personally or is she talking to a doctor?
I hope she just surprises everyone soon, and with our thoughts and prayers, she will spring up and just be her soon, just get to her place where she was, this place isn't good, and you never know, miracles have happened, and I picture her getting up and around shortly, and soon will be able to come back and chat to us. Is she that bad now where she can't communicate? I hope not, could sure the good news that she can come here and say her sweet hellos.
Hugsss!
