Incredible news - They lost it - LOL
I just wanted to post the incredible news I received yesterday. I think I'm still in a bit of a daze so please forgive me if I ramble.
Saw my rad. doc yesterday for the results of my latest scan. He told me they couldn't find the tumor in my lung anymore. He said I have some scar tissue from the rads and if there still is a tumor it is so small that it is hiding behind the scar tissue. I was so shocked that I couldn't say anything, I just sat there like a dummy staring at him so he showed me the report and explained everything to me. I asked him if there were any lymph nodes involved and he said NO. If my next scan results are as good he is going to put me on a 6 month schedule. Hooray!! I still have to see my ENT every month for a scan to keep an eye on the laryngeal cancer but so far there have been no changes there either.
I just can't get over this incredible feeling of relief that I am finally feeling. It was eleven months ago that I was diagnosed with lung cancer. The surgeon who did the biopsy told me about the NSCLC and told me it was "inoperable and incurable" and he couldn't tell me how much longer I had. He also told me there were lymph nodes involved, which was also incorrect. LOL - this was before they even found out about the SCC laryngeal cancer. I walked out of his office feeling that I would be lucky if I was still around for Christmas. After getting the news yesterday my first thought was that I wanted to see the surgeon again and tell him how great I was doing and that he had no right to give me such a fatalistic prognosis. But then I decided that I wouldn't waste a second of my time doing that (even though it would probably give me some satisfaction) I am going to spend my time enjoying life and being happy.
My rad doctor said he wished all of his patients could respond as well as I have. I think he is in awe as much as I am over my recovery and we both agreed that my attitude had a lot to do with it. He told me he was treating another patient with they same stage and type of lung cancer as mine who was not responding as well but after seeing me he was going to tell this patient of my recovery and how my positive attitude helped get me through this. We are both hoping that his patient will see that people do recover from cancer and live normal lives and maybe my story will be what gets through to him. I certainly hope so because I have learned so much from this experience and want to share it with others to encourage them - miracles do happen!!
Okay - enough rambling. I just wanted to share my great news with everyone and tell you to keep a positive attitude, keep smiling and never give up. There is hope!!
Bless everyone on this site and may you all continue to fight the good fight.

You must go out and do something you especially enjoy, IMMEDIATELY!!!!
Enjoy your good fortune!!!
Jo Carol
Jo Carol, I think I am doing what I enjoy most. Since getting the fantastic results I have spent most of my time visiting with family and friends and telling them the good news. I realized yesterday, as I was talking to my sisters, how much my illness had affected others in my life. My sisters and many others were as relieved by the good news as I was. I think I had forgotten that I was not the only one going through this ordeal, everyone who loves me was going through the same emotional turmoil, doubts and fears as I was. It certainly feels good to finally be able to give others good news for a change. It does my heart good to make others smile.
Take care and stay strong.

You're right, it is wonderful to read good news on this site. We read about so much fear, anxiety and pain here that it always lifts my spirits and gives me hope when I read about someone else getting good results from a scan or hearing that they are now cancer free. I'm hoping that my results will encourage others to not give up. There is hope even when things seem to be at their worst. I just want to emphasize keeping a good attitude. My attitude didn't cause my tumor to disappear but my doctors have told me that they feel my attitude got me where I am today - in remission - indefinitely!!
Thank you for your prayers and know that I will keep you and your wife in mine.

Hi Glenna,
In March 2009 my beautiful young sister then age 25 was diagnosed with brain cancer and given 3 to 7 years. They told us this will not go away, the treatment will only prolong her life. We were devastated.
Fast forward to Feb 2010 when she lost it!! After less than a year of chemo and radiation they could find no cancer anymore. I was so stunned I wasn't even excited by this news, as I was sure it was a mistake. I even posted a thread in the brain cancer forum entitled "Fast Recovery from AA3--Miracle or Mistake?" I invite you to visit the brain cancer forum and read that, I have topped it so it s/b easy to find. Our family has since come to accept that miracles DO happen.
My kid sis is still in chemo but if her MRI in May is also clean they might stop treatment. So HOORAY for you and my kid sis!! You are both losers--in the best possible way. :-)0 -

Hi PBJ,
I got chills when I read about your sister. She is a true miracle and I pray she will have a clean MRI in May. What an encouraging story, it proves that while doctors do perform miracles they can be wrong in their prognosis. We are all different and respond differently to treatment. I love reading success stories like your sister's, it gives me even more hope.
I have to say that this is the first time someone has called me a loser, but I love it. This is the only way I intend to be a loser to Cancer, your sister and I are going to continue to kick cancer's butt!!!
My best to you, your sister and your family.

Thank you both. I'm also hoping that many people will read this and realize there is hope. In less than a year I have gone from despair to feeling like the luckiest person alive. I realize now that you should never give up fighting, no matter how bad your diagnosis may sound you have to fight. I hope my story will give others the encouragement they need to keep on fighting.
Take care and stay strong.

Hi jomn111,
Yes, I went through treatment for both cancers. I had chemo (cisplatin) for 2 days in three week cycles and 35 radiation treatments for the laryngeal cancer. My onco doc mentioned possibly using another chemo drug for the lung cancer but they decided on the Stereotatic Radiosurgery radiation for my lung which was a breeze compared to the traditional radiation. The treatments weren't as bad as I thought they would be (believe me they were not pleasant ;-) but the end results were incredible.
Thanks for your congrats.
Take care and stay strong,
