Moms Surgery - Update

Mom had her surgery yesterday. They removed the tumor from her rectum and it was about the size of a tennis ball. They also removed some lymph nodes and biopsied the spots on her liver. She did end up getting an ileostomy because they removed 90% of her rectum and the surgeon wanted it to heal after he hooked it up but said it hooked up nicely. Her blood pressure kept dropping over night and at 7:15 this morning the nurse pushed a Code for the dr's to come help. They gave her a shot, got it back up a bit then transfered her to the step down ICU so she could be monitored continuously. Her blood pressure has gone back up this afternoon so hopefully that hurdle is behind us. She will hopefully get the NG tube out tomorrow as it is bothering her quite a bit and when she sat up today she also said it feels like someone broke her ribs. We keep praying for a speedy recovery so we can get the chemo started and hopefully get the spots on her liver removed next. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

    Thanks for the update! I had to go on three months of chemo, liver resection, then another three months of chemo. The surgeon did not want to the resection because the mets in my liver had shrunk after the chemo and he couldn't see them, the ONC told him you saw where they were so take out that portions of the liver........and they did. So glad! Don't take no for an answer. I presently NED and hope and pray to keep it that way.

    That NG tube might not be a bad thing. They left mine in for 8-9 days after surgery for rectal cancer, which was irritating at the time, but when they finally let me go home, I had no problems at all with my bowels. At least, not until the radiation treatments, but even then, nothing major.
