Health reform for High risk patients

In 2014, you will be able to choose any plan you want. There won't be any exclusions based on pre-existing conditions. I seriously have no idea how that is gonna work. Either premiums are going to skyrocket, or companies are just going to refuse to pay.
What I think would work best is a universal coverage. Everyone is responsible for their first $10,000 (each man, woman, child) then the rest is insured by the govt. As far as the first $10,000 goes, hospitals have to treat and finance.

Are you sure the Out of Pocket includes the premium? That usually means what we pay to providers, not the insurance companies.
Thanks,
Catherine
The way I read it, it seems as though the premiums will be capped at around $5500 for individuals and $11,000 for families. Now, I don't know if the plans will include deductibles or not, but it doesn't appear to.0 -

I gave up trying to read the reform. Do you know if the premiums will be on a sliding scale dependent upon income. I would think that most average families, $11,000.00, might be out of budget. Take a single mom/dad with a couple kids, well $11,000 is something they might not be able to afford with mortage, day care and the like.

Right now there isn't anything other than a promise to help with the premiums. The law requires this program to begin enrolling by July 1st. There currently isn't any additional money set aside for help with premiums. That will probably change when the program starts enrolling.0
