T2 staged cancer

Hello Everyone,
Three weeks ago I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer.I have had barrettes syn drone
since my late forties and now at 61 I was found to have T2 stage cancer.It was found during a routine endoscopy.I had a ct-scan,pet scan and ultrasound done.I am schedule for an
esophagectomy on April 12.I live in Portland,Or.I would appreciate any advice and information on my post surgery experience. Thanks Phil

    Thank you William for the very detailed reply.I am being treated at a cancer center in Portland.I'm having the Minimally Invasive Procedure and thank God I am in good health.My doctors have determine that the cancer has spread to the muscle layer of the esophagus and not beyond..I'm debating if I should tell my family and friends of my cancer,so they won't worry.Only my wife Kathy (the love of my life) knows now,and she is my rock to lean on.I also want to congratulate you with your victory over this disease and thank you for some sound advice.This forum has already made a difference.

    Phil - as the wife of an EC survivor (DX 12/07) I can tell you how much the support of friends, family and coworkers meant to us - it was invaluable! Kathy (who is your rock as I was for Steve) will need support as you will, whether it be prayers, cards, calls, dropping in to lend support, having the local HOG (Harley Riders) come by in the Spring to clean up my gardens or whatever you need done. Even after all this time Steve will still thank the many people who supported us because we could not have done it alone; and this was the first time Steve ever asked for prayer so he was also leaning on a higher power. Tell everyone that you are comfortable with because the EC journey at the beginning cannot be hidden or disguised, trust me. To Kathy, never be afraid to ask for help, prayer and support through this - you will need it as well. Good luck to you both and may God bless and keep you strong.

    Hi Phil,
    My dad was diagnosed with T3N1M0 esophageal cancer three weeks ago. He is currently receiving chemo/radiation and will have surgery in two months. We also live in the Portland area. May I ask who is performing your operation?

    Thanks for the advice of telling my family and friends about my cancer.It is such a weight off my wife, Kathy, and myself. My surgery has been rescheduled for April 19th,the surgeons are Dr.Daniel Tseng and Dr.Edwin Irish.My Gastroenterologist(Larry Heinonen)recommended Dr.Daniel Tseng with high grades and that he had performed surgery on his mother.Again,I want to thank everyone on this forum for their advice and kindness.     Hi Phil,
    I just wanted to wish you good luck on your upcoming surgery. I was a caregiver for my dad, who recently passed away on 3/9. He beat his stage IV ec, then got mets to his liver in December. Sounds like you are in a wonderful hospital, with a top notch surgeon. Lets us know how you make out.
