We are pretty new
Morning!
We are pretty new to this, but I have found that you can get protein pwdr almost anywhere from Walmart to Vitamin World. Prices vary. You can go online and compare brands and ingredients. I have found that mid priced brands are fine, as my husband cant taste anything. I am sure that someone else here will have more info for you, but at least this is a start. Good luck!!!0 -
Protien Powder
The brand that was recommended to me by the nutritionist is: Beneprotein (A nestle product)
You have to have make sure to use plain (not choc or vanilla) in items like mashed potatoes. I got a can as a gift and have no idea where they got it from originally.
Good Luck with all

Sounds good. You might want to add some roasted garlic to the potatoes just for some added flavor.0 -

Added flavor ? How can you taste anything without taste buds? LOL
Dave
Flavor also comes from smells, past experiences, and memories. Roasted garlic isn't spicy but more of a sweet taste and does give things a good taste. I didn't lose my taste buds or at least I don't think I did and over time they may come back even more.0 -

I used to love roasted garlic. My taste has returned, quite a bit. I am not sure why eating is so hard. It seems like my mouth gets sore after just a few bites, or things get clogged, or something...
There is a hunger/pain ratio--if I am really hungry, I don't notice, as the hunger abates, the awareness of the pain increases. It is better than it was, but I have never been known for patience! I never did lose my sense of smell..have others?
Jello still remains my current fave..too bad it really has little value (that I know of)

Amy's mashed potatoes posted by staceya
Staceya,
If you're still here can you explain the "8 each potatoes"? What am I missing?
I'm a caregiver to my significant other (unlicensed husband ;-) who recently underwent 3 rounds of chemo and 35 RTs and now is in the recovery phase. He lost the ability to swallow liquids and foods about a month ago and I make shakes out of Vega All-In-One nutritional shakes and Vega's Energizing Smoothies and Garden of Life's Raw Meal (actual meal replacement) which are all plant-based proteins and nutrient dense) for feeding through his PEG. I also blend 'real' food and make shakes for him. He's had mashed potatoes, salmon, duck (yes even duck!), soups, eggs, and chicken. Anyway, I'm going to make these for him but was curiius about the "each" potatoes???
I know this is an old post but if anyone comes across my question, please answer. Hope Staceya is doing well now
Thanks, Traci

Because I have no idea.
I didn't initially recognize it as my post, thought it was so remarkable that someone else would have a recipe called Amys protein potatos. It must mean 8, OR whatever is handy.
It was a lifesaver.
It was funny to see that recipe today, because I have had the hardest time eating that I have in years.
It was Jello for dinner (which, for better or worse, I shared with the cat*)*She likes jello, who am I to deny her
PS..Is there spellcheck somewhere, I forgot how to spell about 10 years ago

Sounds like a great way to get some big time calories and protein....and real food, too!!
What's going on with the eating, Stacey? Hard to get down, no taste, tough to swallow?

Still having agonizing pain - 9 weeks post treatment
Thanks for the recipe. My partner finished up 8 Erbitux and 36 Rads on Nov 19th. He is still unable to eat and has asked for a PEG tube. We have tried countless products and recipes but everything still burns (SCC BOT T2N2C). The oncologists have him on daily dosage of 120mg of Morphine and 24 mg of Dilaudid, plus lidocaine mouth rinse. They seem baffled why he is still in such agony. Any suggestions would be so appreciated. Thank you.

Got Cheeze
I add shredded cheese, usually mexican blend to mashed potatoes. It adds flavor and calories.

A little sour cream will dress up mashed potatoes pretty good also...
