Esophageal Cancer Found this Weekend
The oncologist came in and said he was at Stage IV, which is very devistating. My father has said repeatedly he is going to defeat this and I hope that he is right. Everything should start next week and I hope that within a few months they can shrink this tumor and remove it by surgery, which has been brought up to him.
I have sat and read this message board the last few days and I finally decided to join because I need to know what others have gone through and at least others here will know exactly how I feel.

My father is 63 years old. My understanding of where the cancer is located, of course it is in his esophagus but it also has located itself in a lymph node in the abdomen and at the tip of one of his lungs. He talked to the Gastro Surgeon who is putting in the feeding tube next week (hopefully) and he will start the chemo soon after.
The Surgeon stated if they can shrink it he will send him to James Institute in Columbus to remove what is left of the cancer. I believe that they can from what I have read on here with the miracles that have taken place, but I realize totally how much worse that it will take to make this happen.
He goes to the oncologist on Monday to set up the PetScan for checking the rest of his body for any possible cancer.
This is a long ride for me but I will stick by his side no matter the outcome!0 -

Dear dadsonlyson,
Welcome to our csn family. Sounds like you are on the right track. You have everything in order. Your dad having a positive attitude will prove to be an asset to himself and all involved. My dad fought 16 months and beat ec. In december he had mets to his liver. He could not beat this one. He fought to the very end though. It can be beat though. There are quite a few on this board that have done it. Come here often and ask alot of questions. Pray often. Stay in touch and know that we are all praying for you your dad and your family. What is your and your dad's name?

I just found out March 29
I just found out March 29 that my dad had cancer. He was having some trouble with swallowing, along with stomach pain, but the doctors figured it was bad acid reflux or kidney stones. My father suffered a stroke six years ago and it messed his speech up, so we didn't know exactly what was going on. They finally sent him to get the scope done and it was the shock of a lifetime. I'm scared to death. We will be going out to Houston Texas on Tuesday to find out more (we live in Mississippi). We are hoping they can shrink his tumor and do surgery. Good luck to you guys!0 -
